Wife You Discarded is a Billionaire's Crush novel Chapter 144

Perhaps because Cedric was in a good mood, he was exceptionally gentle with her that night. But no matter how gentle he was, it still left her exhausted.

Afterward, without him having to say a word, she reached into the nightstand, took out a pill, and swallowed it. She held his gaze, trying to burn the image of his watchful eyes into her memory, hoping it would help her heart die a little faster. She took a sip of water, then opened her mouth to show him she had swallowed it.

Her compliance pleased him immensely.

After his shower, he wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck. His warm breath ghosted over her skin, and she went rigid. He assumed she was just not used to it; he had never held her like this before.

She lay awake for hours, her mind a tangled mess.

Now that she had a car, she no longer had to leave early to catch the bus, so she had told Erma not to come in so early. The next morning, she woke up, made a simple breakfast for two, and after they ate, they drove off together.

The two Maybachs, one sleek and compact, the other more imposing, pulled out of the villa one after the other. Liliana's was in the lead. At the busy intersection heading into the city center, her car waited in the left-turn lane while his was in the lane to go straight.

The moment the light turned green, they both pressed the accelerator, heading in different directions.

At 7:40, Liliana parked on the street next to Cyan and walked the rest of the way to the office, arriving at her desk just on time.

"Liliana!" Tillie called from her cubicle. "Designer Shepherd wants to see you. And she did not look happy."

Liliana set down her bag, took off her coat, and smoothed her black blouse. "Did she say what it was about?"

"What is your problem with Ms. Woods? Are you trying to curse her?"

Liliana stared, completely bewildered. "What makes you think I would do something like that?"

Nina held up her phone, displaying the design Sylvia had forwarded her. "Then how do you explain this?"

It was Liliana's design, but a closer look revealed subtle, malicious additions—objects placed in ways that, according to certain superstitions, were considered inauspicious. Liliana didn't believe in such things herself, but a famous mentor had once told her, *You don't have to believe, but you can't stop your clients from believing.* And since you couldn't exactly ask a client if they were superstitious, it was best to learn the rules and avoid any potential issues.

"I didn't add those," Liliana stated calmly. "I don't know who did." She gently pushed Nina's phone back, then took out her own, opening the file she had sent to Sylvia the day before. "You can see for yourself."
