"In your eyes, my abilities are worthless, and my salary is even more insignificant."
Liliana was used to his sarcasm. Her only goal was the money.
She gritted her teeth and continued, "So, you still need to give me the allowance."
Cedric's expression was cool and aloof. He didn't offer any more sarcastic remarks, but he didn't agree to give it to her either.
"Come with me somewhere tomorrow afternoon. I'll transfer it to you then."
The implication was clear: if she didn't go, he wouldn't pay.
Liliana was surprised. "Are you sure you want to take me out?"
By 'out,' she meant somewhere other than their home or the Forrest Estate.
Wasn't he afraid of the rumors that might start if he was seen with her?
"What?" Cedric studied her. "You don't want to?"
"Of course not." Liliana shook her head, then added a reminder. "Just don't regret it if some gossip gets out and upsets Vice President Woods."
Sylvia's possessiveness over Cedric was stronger than that of his own wife.
Cedric didn't understand what taking Liliana out had to do with Sylvia.
Annoyed by Liliana's attitude, he blurted out, "She's more magnanimous than you. She wouldn't be upset."
Liliana's appetite completely vanished.
She looked at Cedric with her clear eyes for a few seconds, then put down her fork and stood up. "I'm full. Take your time. I'll clean up later."
She went to the living room, packed up her laptop and the small table, then sat on the sofa to message Nina and request the day off.
A short while later, Cedric finished eating, went upstairs, and dove back into his work in the study.
He had been very busy lately. In their two years of marriage, Liliana had rarely seen him pull all-nighters for work.
This time, taking advantage of Douglas's stubborn insistence on sponsoring The AuraRun Design Contest, the shareholders forced him to agree to enter the real estate market as a trade-off.
Liliana's eyelid twitched for no reason, and she pressed a finger to the corner of her eye.
"Business is like a battlefield. What does their competition have to do with us?"
Juniper whined, "Just think about it! If they become mortal enemies, and we go out shopping, the media will splash it all over the headlines. *Mr. Sewell and Mr. Forrest battle it out in the boardroom while their sister and wife's friendship is revealed to be fake!*"
"Pfft—" Liliana couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing.
The image was indeed ridiculous.
If that day ever came, the media really would film it.
But she reminded her, "People only know you're Douglas's sister. They don't know I'm Cedric's wife, so there's nothing to worry about."
"The Sewell family is just entertaining the idea for now," Juniper chattered on. "By the time they actually make their move, who knows? Maybe you and that jerk Forrest will have already gone public with your marriage."
