To ensure it worked on the first try, she had to choose a time when Liliana wasn't around.
She was eager to see if Cedric would still let Leroy Sterling stay in the country once something happened to Hale!
And she wondered if Liliana would have any energy left to fight her for Cedric!
"Okay, I'll go check right now…" Baber's mother clutched the money and ran off.
Sylvia wasn't worried she'd take the money and run. Greedy people could always be counted on to want more.

By the time Liliana finished paying the bill and went to find Jude, his office was empty.
She was too late. Disappointed, she glanced toward Hale's room.
She wondered if his condition had improved.
Without a doctor's permission, she didn't dare visit him alone, so she had no choice but to turn and leave.
She pressed the down button for the elevator at the end of the long corridor and waited as it descended from the top floor.
A moment later, the doors opened. Before she could step inside, she heard a familiar male voice.
"Dr. Sterling, don't forget you still owe me a favor."
It was Douglas, whom she had just seen.
Standing beside him was a clean-cut doctor in a white coat, wearing black-framed glasses.
Noticing someone outside the elevator, both men looked over.
Douglas was equally surprised. "Liliana, what a coincidence."
"I came to pay Hale's medical bills," Liliana said as she stepped into the elevator, nodding politely at Leroy.
She didn't ask what Douglas was doing there.
But for Douglas, her timing was perfect.
"Dr. Sterling, this is the sister of the patient I told you about. Her brother is right here in Riverbend Hospital. You can pull his medical records and look at his situation."
Liliana looked at Douglas, confused.
Douglas leaned in slightly and whispered an explanation. "This is Dr. Sterling. He just returned from studying abroad. While he might not have extensive clinical experience, he's made several international breakthroughs in psychiatric and psychological disorders. I thought he might be able to help you."
He had tried to contact Leroy multiple times before, but Leroy always declined, saying he was too busy to return to the country.
But would that be right?
He was torn, hesitant.
The elevator reached the ground floor. Liliana could tell he didn't want to agree but was probably finding it hard to refuse in front of her.
She spoke up. "Dr. Sterling, you can take your time to consider it and let us know your decision."
With that, she stepped out of the elevator and smiled at Douglas. "Douglas, let me know what Dr. Sterling decides. I should get going."
"Alright." Douglas wanted to cash in his favor, but he also didn't want Liliana to feel too indebted.
After Liliana left, he turned back to Leroy. "Dr. Sterling, I'm not asking you to guarantee a full recovery for Hale, just that you do your best. If you do, the favor you owe me will be cleared. In fact, I'll owe you one."
Leroy's eyes lit up.
Cedric had always said that a person needed to be flexible and seize opportunities when they arose.
If he could help someone, reduce his own troubles, and gain a little happiness in the process, why not?
"You have a deal."
