Chapter 8

Without even thinking, I blurted out,

“Of course she’d like it. I mean… I’m pretty satisfied myself.”

The second the words left my mouth, I realized how reckless that sounded.

I immediately covered my mouth in embarrassment.

Hayden’s eyes curved slightly with amusement.

“It’s just casual conversation, Gamma Cora. No need to be nervous.”

Disneyland was absolutely packed.

To make sure Hayden actually had a good experience, I bought the Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Anyway, Finn would reimburse everything later.

Hayden and I headed straight for the roller coaster first.

Online reviews made it sound terrifying.

Apparently timid people passed out on it, while even thrill–seekers came off screaming about how

intense it was.

I’d wanted to try it for ages.

Unfortunately, I was also a coward.

The second I sat down, my face turned pale.

My voice shook as I asked,

“Is it too late to get off now?”

Hayden looked perfectly calm as he teased,

“Once you board a pirate ship, there’s no getting off/”

Then he added casually,

“If Gamma Cora is really scared, you can hold my hand.”

I felt awkward instantly.

“King Hayden… wouldn’t that be inappropriate? I heard you have a girlfriend.”

“We already broke up.”

He paused briefly before adding quietly,

“And she wouldn’t mind anyway.”

Before I could even respond, Hayden reached over and firmly intertwined his fingers with mine.

The warmth of his palm somehow eased my nerves immediately.

My heart kept pounding wildly.

I couldn’t tell if it was because of the roller coaster…

Or because of Hayden.

By the time the ride ended, I’d practically crushed his hand.

The back of it was covered in red finger marks from how tightly I’d squeezed him.

I quickly let go, mortified.

“Sorry!”

Hayden’s eyes looked slightly watery as he smiled.

“It’s okay. Didn’t hurt at all.”

I blinked.

Then pointed awkwardly at his eyes.

“King Hayden… are you crying?”

Hayden immediately turned his face away.

“No.”

His voice sounded suspiciously calm.

“The wind was too strong. Something got in my eyes.”

I instantly let go like I’d been electrocuted.

“Uh… sorry. I got too nervous.”

Hayden’s eyes were full of amusement.

“It’s alright.”

Then he added seriously,

“To be honest, I was terrified too.”

I stared at him blankly.

Terrified?

Really?

Because he looked calm the entire time.

Afterward, we went through almost every attraction in the park.

By the time we finally left, the sky was already dark.

And somewhere along the way, Hayden and I had become much more comfortable with each other.

As we walked out, Hayden suddenly asked,

“So, Gamma Cora, what’s good to eat around here?”

I immediately recommended a super famous local taco place.

The environment wasn’t exactly luxurious…

But the food was ridiculously good.

Soon, Hayden and I were sitting outside at a tiny roadside table.

I ordered several signature dishes.

And eight bottles of beer.
