Chapter 9
“Is it really that good?”
“Yeah. Don’t believe me? Try it.”
I picked up a greasy, dripping taco and held it out to him.
At first, Hayden looked a little hesitant.
But after watching me devour mine without hesitation, he eventually took a bite.
Then another.
And another.
Soon, he was eating more and more.
We drank beer and ate tacos under the night sky.
Hayden shared funny stories from his visits to other packs.
I told him bits and pieces of my childhood.
Before long, all eight bottles of beer were gone.
My mind started to blur.
I raised my hand and shouted,
“Four more beers!”
“Gamma Cora, you’ve had too much. No more drinking.”
“Stop bossing me around!”
The world tilted.
And then everything went black.
In the fading haze, I thought I heard a voice near my ear.
[Cupcake… do you really not want me to control you?]
Something warm brushed against my forehead.

A kiss.
Soft.
Light.
Then nothing.
When I woke up again, it was already around 10 a.m. the next morning.
We were supposed to return to the pack that day.
I packed my things, only to realize my crystal necklace was missing.
I immediately messaged Hayden.
[King Hayden, have you seen my necklace?]
He replied instantly.
[It’s with me. Do you want me to bring it over?]
[No, I’ll come get it.]
I knocked on his room door.
Hayden was also packing, halfway through organizing his things.
And inside the room…
Finn was there too.
His eyes were red as he complained to Hayden.
“Arwen is completely unreasonable.”
“I just got a message from my ex asking how I’ve been. That’s it. And she immediately exploded.‘
“She even told me to delete her or she’d break up with me!”
“If you weren’t my online boyfriend, then explain this.”
“The necklace. The sweater. Everything I picked out for Noctis.”
Finn immediately panicked.
“What? I only bought those because I copied Hayden!”
My soul froze. For a second, I felt like I died on the spot.

And then-
Hayden stepped forward.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
He stopped right in front of me, his dark aura pressing down like a storm.
His eyes locked onto mine.
Cold.
Dangerous.
And slightly hurt.
“Cupcake,” he said quietly.
“If he was your online boyfriend…”
“Then what am I?”
