Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“But I guess that makes sense. The Sterlings have that kind of pull. Getting you in here was probably a snap of their fingers. Not like Colin and me-we actually had to bust our asses to get in.”
“Oh, and where’s that Sterling family fuckup? You know, the useless son? I bet Mrs. Sterling shoved him in here too, right?”
My jaw tightened. I was about to say something when-
“Eva!”
Colin walked over, shooting me that same disgusted look.
He pulled Eva behind him. “I told you to stay away from her.”
“Colin, Anna’s not a bad person.”
Eva played innocent, her voice all soft and sweet.
Colin’s tone was ice. “How do you know she’s not?”
The whole day was packed with classes. I didn’t have the energy to watch them flirt. I pulled out my management textbook and started reading.
When the bell rang, Julian and I met up at the school gates like we’d agreed. We’d head home together.
He didn’t want to at first-Mrs. Sterling forced him.
But over the past few days, even though he still acted annoyed, he’d started bringing me snacks from the food stalls outside school.
I stared at the little cake he handed me.
“I saw other girls in class eating them. What, you don’t like it?”
“I love it. Of course I love it.”
A flicker of joy crossed my face as I took it from him.
The next week, it was a different snack every day. Fries, fruit, yogurt…
We practically ate our way through every food stall at the gates.
A semester passed. Our relationship had actually gotten better.
That day, I rushed to the school gates like always, expecting to see him.
But Julian wasn’t there.
I searched the entire campus, Nothing.
Then I heard voices nearby. “Hey, did you hear? Julian Sterling’s racing someone up on the back hill.”
“Wait, seriously?”
“Yeah. The race probably already started.”
Chapter 5
My stomach dropped.
I remembered.
Last life, Julian got goaded into a race. Someone tampered with his car. The terrain up there was brutal-sharp turns, steep drops.
He crashed. Hard.
No one got to him in time. His legs got crushed. Paralyzed for life.
No. Not this time.
I bolted toward the back hill.
By the time I got there, the race had already started. A massive crowd surrounded the track-screaming, cheering, deafening noise. Cars tore past me, kicking up clouds of dust.
Then I heard it.
A massive CRASH.
That red sports car-Julian’s car-spun out of control right in front of me.
Slammed straight into a rock formation.
The crowd scattered like rats.
“JULIAN!!”
I ran toward the wreck. I was so close-just a few more seconds and I could’ve pulled him out.
Then something yanked me backward. Hard.
I hit the ground.
“That’s your brother?”
A vicious face loomed over me.
“Call an ambulance! My brother’s dying!!”
I looked toward the driver’s seat. Julian was trapped-crushed, no space left, no way out.
My heart hammered in my chest.
“Your brother crossed me. And you think I’m gonna let you save him? Dream on.”
A huge hand slapped across my face-back and forth, mocking, cruel.
I shoved him off and slapped him back as hard as I could. “This is murder! You’re breaking the law! I swear to God, I’ll make you pay for this!”
I thought maybe-just maybe-I could scare them off. I fumbled for my phone.
But the next second, it was ripped out of my hands and hurled across the ground.
Another slap. Harder this time. I hit the dirt.

You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me21 That’s Illegal Combled
Chapter 5
“Who the hell do you think you’re yelling at, little bitch?”
A boot slammed down on my face.
Pain exploded through my skull. Through the haze, I saw a familiar figure.
Colin.
“Colin! Help me!!”
I screamed with everything I had left.
He started walking toward me. For a second, I thought-maybe-
Then Eva grabbed his arm. “Colin, don’t. Let’s not get involved. Those guys are dangerous. Let’s just go.”
I watched his face. Saw the hesitation. Saw it crumble.
“Okay.”
He looked at me one last time. Then turned around and walked away.
The guy pulled a sledgehammer out of his car. “I’ve never been slapped in my entire fucking life. Today, you’re gonna learn what that costs.”
My screams scattered in the wind.
He raised the hammer.
And brought it down.
“AHHH-”
