You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 16

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

The hammer came down.

I squeezed my eyes shut.

A muffled grunt echoed beside me. The pain I expected never came. I snapped my eyes open.

Julian was standing in front of me.

Blood dripped from his mouth. Splattered across my face.

My heart seized.

“Julian! Julian!!”

“Don’t-don’t do this-”

I watched him collapse right in front of me.

My chest caved in.

I lunged forward, catching him. “Julian, please-wake up-”

“Shut the fuck up.”

The guy’s face twisted with rage. He grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked me up. “Keep screaming and I’ll sew your goddamn mouth shut.”

“So you never speak again.”

But panic drowned out fear.

I clawed at his hand. “This is murder. You’re breaking the law. I already called the cops. Let us go now, or-”

Before I could finish, his hand clamped around my throat.

I couldn’t breathe.

Couldn’t speak.

I could only watch his face contort, inch by inch. “Called the cops? You think that scares me? Even if you did, I don’t give a shit.”

“Today, you’re gonna learn what happens when you fuck with me.”

His lips curled into a sick grin.

Then he hurled me to the ground.

My head slammed into the dirt. Everything spun.

Before I could move, he stomped toward Julian and kicked him. Hard.

Julian lay on the ground, curled up, writhing in pain.

Chapter 6

“Julian!!”

I ignored my own pain and threw myself at the guy’s leg. “Don’t you fucking touch him!!!”

I screamed with everything I had left, but it wasn’t enough. He kicked me off like I was nothing.

“You think you can tell me what to do? Where the hell does that leave my reputation?”

He waved his hand. His crew swarmed in, surrounding Julian.

Fists and boots rained down on him.

Blood splattered across the dirt. I spotted a metal pipe lying on the ground and lunged for it.

“GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM!!!”

I swung. Hard. If I could take one down, I’d take them all down.

They saw me lose it and scattered.

Once they backed off, I didn’t waste a second. I ran to Julian and pulled him up.

Blood poured from his mouth.

My hands were shaking so bad I could barely hold him. “Julian-are you okay? Stay with me. Please. You have to be okay.”

“I’m getting you out of here.”

Thanks to all that training, his weight didn’t feel like a burden. I hoisted him up and started dragging him toward the exit.

Just had to get down the hill. Flag down a car. That’s it.

I gritted my teeth and kept moving.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

A shadow fell over me.

The gang stood there, grinning like this was all some sick joke.

“You really think you two are walking out of here today?”

The guy twirled the metal pipe in his hand.

“Yeah. You beat up our boss and think you can just leave? Did you ask us first?”

Another guy stepped forward-bigger, meaner. Pure muscle.

Even after a year at the Sterling mansion, even with the martial arts training Mrs. Sterling arranged for me-I had no shot against this guy. Let alone all of them.

“Don’t worry about me. Just go.”

Julian’s voice was barely a whisper. He tried to push me away.

But he was too weak.
