Chapter 1
New Year’s Eve, and my boyfriend gave me a knockoff secondhand bag as a gift.
Furious, I dumped him and ran to my best friend’s place to vent.
But the second I saw her, something impossible happened-I could suddenly hear her thoughts!
“That secondhand fake bag? I’m the one who swapped it out.”
“You idiot. That man you just dumped is a secret billionaire! And tonight he was going to propose.”
“Why should such a perfect man be wasted on you? From now on, he’s mine!”
I checked the security footage.
Sure enough, there she was, switching the bags.
Then I cut her off, cleared things up with my boyfriend, and we got married.
But after the wedding? He wasn’t rich at all. He was drowning in debt.
I spent every day running from loan sharks until I finally fell from a building and died.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back-right at the moment I first heard her thoughts.
But as things unfolded, all the signs kept pointing to one thing-
This lifetime around, something was off…
“Men in love are so easy to fool.”
“Just because I told him Maren doesn’t like over-the-top stuff, he actually scrapped the Times Square billboard and decided to propose at a hotel instead. In secret.”
“Then he asked what kind of gift Maren would like. Ha! Whatever I like, she’s gonna have to like.”
“Perfect timing too-I just got scammed buying a fake bag the other day. So I’ll just swap his real one for mine. Problem solved.”
“Delete the purchase record, and when the time comes, there’s no proof. God, I’m a genius.”
Hearing Chloe’s thoughts again, I still broke out in a cold sweat.
That’s exactly how it went down last time.
I’d gotten all dressed up, excited to spend New Year’s Eve with my boyfriend.
And then he handed me a gift-
The tags didn’t even

from an official store.

I asked for the receipt. He couldn’t produce one.
Then he said Chloe had been around the bag too, so maybe she had something to do with it.
He even tried to drag me to some hotel, saying he had a “surprise” waiting for me there.
I almost laughed in his face.
After all that, he still thought I’d go to a hotel with him?
I threw the bag right at him and dumped him on the spot.
Chloe and I grew up together. After all these years, we were closer than family.
Hell, when my mom needed surgery, Chloe was the one who paid for it.
How dare he try to use a stupid bag to turn me against her?
But then I came home and heard her thoughts-every bit of it was her plan.
At first, I didn’t believe it. I thought someone was messing with me.
But I checked the security footage. I saw her swap the bag with my own eyes.
I went to the hotel my boyfriend mentioned-the one with the “surprise.”
He really had booked the presidential suite. And the whole room was set up for a proposal.
I even found the text thread on his phone where Chloe convinced him to keep the proposal low-key.
Crushed and furious, I exposed her, cut her off for good, and reconciled with my boyfriend. We got married.
But after the wedding, he became a completely different person.
Turns out he’d been gambling, racking up massive debts.
He only married me so I’d help him pay them off.
I was hounded by collectors every single day until I couldn’t take it anymore. I jumped.
And even as I died, I had no idea why any of it happened.
“Maren, honestly? You breaking up with him-maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.”
“Look, I not anted to say anything before, but… there was always something off about that guy. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I just had
now?”
