You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 60

Chapter 5

My heart dropped.

It took everything in me not to freeze right there in the doorway. I forced my legs to keep moving, one step at a time, until I was out of earshot.

By the time I got to the ER waiting area and sat down, my whole body was shaking.

I don’t know how long I sat there before a doctor finally came out.

He said Dad and Sienna were separated, but both were badly injured and needed to stay for observation.

Then he gave me this pitying look. “Your dad already filed a police report, by the way.”

I kept my voice steady. “Thanks.”

When I got back to Jett’s room and told Mom, she just scoffed. “Let him call the cops. Like I’m scared of that asshole.”

Jett looked just as unbothered.

When the police showed up, Mom was wheeling Jett toward Sienna’s room to confront her.

“Hey! Stop right there! No fighting!” one of the cops barked.

Jett slowly lowered his fist.

“Officer, you don’t understand-my wife, she-”

“Please, officer, you have to help me!”

Mom and Jett took turns spilling the whole story, with Mom crying her eyes out-total performance.

In the end, the cops labeled it a “domestic dispute.”

Dad kept yelling about getting a medical exam to prove assault and threatening to sue Mom.

That’s when Mom lunged at him again and slapped him across the face.

rounds of “mediation,” the police report went nowhere.

ews about Dad and Sienna’s affair spread like wildfire. Even the details of how Mom tortured them got out-and I’m pretty sure someone that hospital staff was running their mouth.

Just like last time, they all decided to get divorced.

Our house turned into a war zone. Constant screaming. Dishes smashed. We couldn’t even cook meals anymore because all the pots and pans were destroyed.

And through all their fighting, I finally pieced together the truth about something.

Turns out, before Mom married Dad, she had a boyfriend. But his family was broke, so my grandparents didn’t approve. They drugged Mom and made sure she slept with Dad so she’d have no choice but to marry him.

From that one night, she got pregnant with me. So she had to marry Dad. Her boyfriend left town.

When I was three, that guy came back. He’d made it big. Wanted to take Mom away with him.

But the day before they were supposed to run off together, I-being a stupid kid-accidentally mentioned it to Dad.

“Mommy’s going on a train with some man. She’s not taking me.”

That’s how Dad found out. They missed their chance.

So when I exposed Dad and Sienna and destroyed her life all over again, she started hating me.

I guess her revenge made sense from her perspective.

Standing in her shoes, maybe I’m supposed to understand.

But what did I do wrong?

Dad was disappointed in me too. “I only stayed in this marriage for YOU. And this time you sided with your mom to screw me over!”

I kept my head down and stayed quiet.

“For me”? Yeah, right. That’s just an excuse.

He only needed a “wife” to cook, clean, and take care of the kids and his sick parents.

Look-I’m grown now. Grandpa and Grandma are gone. Dad’s got no reason to hold back anymore. That’s why he cheated.

Hell, the fact that he picked Sienna as his affair partner was probably revenge in itself.

Now that they’re divorcing, they’re not even fighting about feelings. It’s

about the house and money.

When they finally got tired of screaming at each other, they came to an agreement.

adult now. You don’t need child support. Just figure out your own life.”

We’ll come back when we need you to take care of us when we’re old.”

They said all that with straight faces. Like it was the most reasonable thing in the world.

Meanwhile, Jett and Sienna finalized their divorce too.

Same day. Same courthouse.

After signing the papers, Jett suggested, “Let’s grab one last meal together. For old times’ sake.”

During dinner, nobody said a word. The tension was suffocating.

Until someone pushed open the door to our private room.

“Jett! Heard your family was eating here. Thought I’d swing by and say hi.”

The second I saw his face, my heart stopped.

Cormac.

Of course he showed up.

But this time… who’s his target?
