You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 84

Chapter 2

“You better think this through,” I said, barely containing my rage. “If you make me late, there won’t be time for Grandpa Bryant’s heart

transplant!”

Tonight I was supposed to perform Grandpa Bryant’s heart transplant surgery.

But if I couldn’t save my old mentor and get back in time, the old man would have to wait in the ICU.

Every minute of delay meant more danger!

“Enough!”

Marcus cut me off harshly. “Don’t think I don’t know you’ve been lying this whole time!”

“I looked into it. That first heart surgery you did on Grandpa was just minor-any doctor could’ve done it, we don’t need you,” he sneered. “You tricked him into thinking only you could pull it off just so you could marry into the Bryant family.”

“Well, congratulations-you got your wish,” Marcus said through gritted teeth. “I won’t break off the engagement, but I’ll never let you touch Grandpa again!”

My heart lurched.

My instincts as a doctor made me protest: “No, this surgery really can only be done by-”

“Still acting,” the man said dismissively. “Celeste found a cardiac specialist from overseas. I already moved up the surgery. We don’t need you

anymore!”

The surgery had been moved up, and nobody had bothered to tell me-the lead surgeon.

If I didn’t have this mission, I could rush to the hospital right now to stop this.

But I was powerless.

“Will you take responsibility if something goes wrong?” I asked irritably.

In this world, I couldn’t even count how many people were begging for me to operate on them.

Grandpa Bryant only got this precious opportunity by chance. Otherwise, with his status, he wouldn’t even qualify to meet me.

Since Marcus insisted on not letting me save his grandfather, I couldn’t care less.

Silence on the other end.

He hadn’t expected me to agree so easily.

“Nothing’s going to go wrong,” he spoke with great conviction. “I’m taking full responsibility!”

With that, he hung up.

Seeing that Marcus hadn’t backed me up, the housekeeper watching the show couldn’t help but mock me: “Regretting it now?”

She rolled her eyes. “Miss Sullivan isn’t just an intern assistant. She’s only been at the company a month, but the young master brought her home and dotes on her day and night. He even announced she is the lady of the house. None of us dare cross her-who do you think you are?”

Lady of the house?

Before I even stepped foot in the door, the Bryant family already had a lady of the house?

“Don’t you people know Marcus has a fiancée?” I couldn’t help asking.

“Bullshit!” the housekeeper said snidely. “The young master already said once that stupid woman moves in, she can get lost as soon as possible. He only recognizes Miss Sullivan as his future wife!”

Celeste relaxed, looking at me smugly while deliberately showing off the diamond ring on her ring finger.

I laughed in disbelief.

The Bryant family was way too dishonest.

If I had known Marcus’s true nature was like this, I wouldn’t have wanted him even if you killed me.

I checked the time-thirty minutes until takeoff.

If I didn’t leave now, I’d be too late.

“Last warning,” I said seriously. “You can’t handle the consequences of interfering with my work. If you come to your senses now and give me the car back, I might put in a good word and let you off

easy.”

Celeste’s eyes widened.

“Some nobody driver whose yearly salary can’t even buy one of my shoes!”

“Even if I beat you to death, I can afford to pay for your cheap life!”

I didn’t have time to argue. Seeing her hogging the car, I decided to head out and call a cab, coordinating everything else on the way-maybe I

could still make it to the airport in thirty minutes.

Just as I turned to the gate, a vicious kick slammed into my stomach. My phone flew out of my hands instantly.

Caught completely off guard, I was knocked to the ground.

My organs felt like they’d been crushed.

I tasted blood in my throat and coughed up a mouthful.

Celeste sauntered over and pressed her stiletto heel against my face.

“Thinking you can just leave without apologizing to me? In your fucking dreams!”
