Chapter 7
“Take me to the hospital…”
I said through gritted teeth as a reminder: “This is your only chance at redemption…”
Seeing that text message, my mentor leaders would definitely come.
If I died, they would make everyone involved pay a devastating price!
“Are you addicted to pretending?”
Celeste laughed out loud. “You really think someone’s coming to save you?”
“Let me tell you-only the Bryant family calls the shots here!”
“Who’s making all that noise?”
As soon as she finished speaking, a familiar voice reached my ears.
Celeste, who had been so smug just moments before, instantly became restrained, obedient as a pet cat.
Only when the woman walked over did I recognize her-my future mother-in-law, Marcus’s mother.
No wonder Celeste was putting on the good girl act.
Noticing me, my mother-in-law frowned deeply and quickly covered her nose with a handkerchief.
The other Bryant family members who came with her also pointed and whispered about me, their eyes full of disgust.
“The old master is dead, and instead of preparing the funeral you’re here doing what?” Mother-in-law questioned Marcus with a stern face. “And who was responsible for that foreign quack doctor?!”
Celeste trembled with fear.
She immediately pointed at me: “It was her!”
“I found the foreign specialist, but the person I found was a real expert! Aria couldn’t stand me, so she secretly switched him out to frame me!” She started crying as she spoke. “You have to believe me, I’m really innocent…”
Marcus didn’t explain anything for me.
Instead, he calmly nodded.
Mother-in-law’s eyes were filled with disgust, like she wanted to cut me to pieces on the spot.
“I knew you had ulterior motives when you deliberately approached the old master.”
Her voice was shrill and made no attempt to hide her malice toward me: “I think you were afraid Celeste would expose your fraud identity, and
7 when you couldn’t get by anymore and couldn’t marry in, you decided to frame her!”
“From the beginning I thought you were a jinx-the old master died before you even entered our family. How do you explain that?!”
After Mother Bryant finished speaking, all the Bryant family members pointed and whispered about me.
They didn’t understand my true identity-they only knew I was Marcus’s rarely-seen fiancée.

“Thank goodness for Celeste, or our Bryant family would be finished.”
“I think Celeste is much better than her. Now that the old master is dead, the engagement is off!”
“Just looking at this jinx makes me sick. We should hurry up and let Assistant Celeste join the family.”
Their gossip drifted into my ears.
With so many Bryant family members backing her up, Celeste straightened her spine.
Unable even to sit up properly, I once again sought help from Derek with my eyes.
“Secretary Hayes…” I spoke with difficulty. “If I die… please tell my lawyer to donate all my assets to the country…”
“As for the engagement… I choose to break it off with Marcus immediately.”
Even in death, I didn’t want to be buried as Marcus’s fiancée.
I found it disgusting.
“Okay, understood.” Derek nodded in agreement.
I smiled with relief.
Having held on for so long, I could feel my life slipping away bit by bit.
With the Bryant family here, they’d never take me to a hospital.
“You dare give up our engagement?” Marcus’s expression was complex. “Are you playing some trick I don’t know about again?”
“I said I would marry you-I just require you to know your place in the future and not dream of competing with Celeste for my favor! With me
here, I’ll never let you win.”
I shook my head: “Save it…”
Having said everything I needed to say, I couldn’t hold on anymore and passed out.
“Everyone inside, put your hands on your heads and crouch down!”
In my haze, I heard many voices.
“Dr. Summer is here-start emergency treatment immediately!!”
