You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 99

Chapter 8

I hadn’t expected Cassidy to have such a background, but I still couldn’t understand one thing.

“If my father helped you, why did you frame him and send him to prison?”

“To drive a wedge between you and Theo, obviously.”

“If I didn’t do something to damage your relationship, how would I ever have the chance to become his woman?”

I shuddered as everything suddenly became clear.

С

“So you deliberately recorded that video and posted it online to drive my father to suicide, creating a blood feud between Theo and me that could never be bridged?”

Admiration flickered in Cassidy’s eyes. “You’re not as stupid as you look.”

“But that was just what I wanted you to think.”

“No matter how much noise was made outside, communication in prison is limited. So I personally brought the video to the prison.”

“I told your father it was because of him that you were coerced and humiliated. I said he deserved to die.”

“Surprisingly, your father really did love you. Just one night later, he was dead!”

Tears poured down my face as hatred consumed me. Now I understood why Dad had said those things with his dying breath.

I glared at her, unable to contain my rage. “Cassidy Morgan, I’m going to KILL you. I swear to God I will END you!”

Yet Cassidy just leaned back in her seat, completely unafraid.

“That’s not happening tonight. You won’t be killing me-you’ll be the one dying at my hands instead.”

“Honestly, I’ve already gotten what I wanted. I don’t HAVE to kill you, but you’ve made Theo waver now.”

“After what happened at the cemetery yesterday, he’s become cold toward me. He even refused when I suggested staying at the mansion to keep him company.”

“So, Delilah Winters, I simply can’t let you live anymore.”

I stopped talking and turned to watch the scenery outside, my mind racing through possible escape scenarios.

As the car ventured into increasingly remote areas, I made my move when we crossed the river bridge. I suddenly lunged forward, grabbing Cassidy by the hair.

The men beside me tried to pull me off her, but they were hesitant to use full force, landing blow after blow on my body instead.

No matter how much their strikes hurt, I gritted my teeth and endured the pain.

Finally, Cassidy lost her patience and screamed:”

“STOP the car and help me, you useless idiots! Are you all fucking DEAD?”

The car screeched to a halt and the door flew open.

Seizing my opportunity, I yanked Cassidy toward the door, crashing into the driver who had just reached the doorway.

He fell to the ground trying to protect Cassidy from the impact.

I leapt over their bodies, scrambling past multiple guardrails until I reached the edge of the bridge.

Looking back at the group just feet away, I let go and plunged into the water below.

In that moment, I thanked God they hadn’t tied my hands because of their overconfidence.

As I fell, I heard a cargo ship’s warning horn.

Panic seized me-I thought this would be my end-when suddenly a wave swept me away from danger.

The cargo ship thundered past, missing me by inches, but providing the perfect cover.

Cassidy and her men assumed I was dead. From their vantage point, they believed I’d surely been struck by the cargo ship, pulled under, and shredded by the propellers.

So none of them bothered searching the riverbank for me. Instead, they quickly fled the scene.

I swam desperately toward the dock, my wounds making my head throb with pain.

Just as my strength was about to give out, a life preserver encircled me.

Looking up, I saw Mason Hawthorne-who was supposed to have left with my mother.

“Weren’t you supposed to take my mom away first? Why did you come back?” I asked, bewildered.

Mason threw his hands up in exasperation. “You two really know how to put a guy in a tough spot.”

“You told me to take your mother and go, but she refused to leave without seeing you first. What was I supposed to do?”

Realizing I’d been too harsh in my distress, I had no right to direct my anger at someone helping us.

“I’m sorry,” I apologized softly.

He dismissed my apology with a wave, then scooped me up and placed me into the military-grade SUV.
