You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 98

Chapter 7

This time, Theo had wrongly accused Cassidy.

She hadn’t been lying.

Before leaving, I entrusted my mother to Mason Hawthorne, who had come to escort us, and returned to the Valentine mansion alone.

When I arrived, the house was quiet. Thinking Theo wasn’t home, I went straight to his study.

I opened his computer and copied all his data and bank statements onto a flash drive.

Then I headed to the bedroom.

When I discovered someone in bed, I hesitated about entering.

After all, Theo had always been extremely vigilant-even when exhausted, he could sense the slightest movement nearby.

But quickly, I smelled alcohol in the air.

I took two steps inside but accidentally stepped on an empty bottle.

As I pitched forward, I instinctively lunged forward, my chin landing on Theo’s hand.

He seemed dead drunk, not even stirring.

When I got up, I saw our marriage certificate in his arms, illuminated by moonlight.

I picked it up and examined our side-by-side photo in the pale light.

In the photo, my smile was sweet.

But now that smile seemed mockingly ironic-a reminder of how I’d mistaken his performance for genuine love.

I tore off my half of the photo, crumpled it, and considered throwing it in the trash, but worried he’d notice when he woke up.

After hesitating, I tossed both the certificate and photo onto the bed.

Then I opened the safe under the bedside table, retrieved my passport and the dowry my father had given me, then left the mansion without looking back.

I thought everything had gone smoothly.

But just outside the mansion, someone covered my mouth and dragged me into a car.

Inside, I discovered three or four men-all Theo’s former subordinates.

After Theo disbanded some of his criminal enterprises for me, I never saw them again.

I never imagined they’d now be working with Cassidy.

“Cassidy, what do you want?” I demanded as they forced me into a seat. When I tried to struggle, pressure increased on my shoulders.

Cassidy sat opposite me, her face dark with malice.

“What do I want? I want you DEAD!”

“You pathetic slut, I thought you had some backbone. After how Theo treated you, you should have left long ago.”

“But you’re so disgustingly clingy, not only refusing to leave but trying to seduce him again-sneaking back in the middle of the night to find him.”

Seeing her face twisted with rage, I decided not to provoke her further for my own safety.

“You’ve got it all wrong. I only came back to get my things.”

“Theo made my father go to prison, forced me to kneel and admit my father was a murderer, scattered my father’s ashes, and hurt me. For all these things, I could NEVER forgive him.”

“I was already planning to leave. If you hadn’t grabbed me, I’d be on my way out of Boston with my mother right now.”

“Really?”

Hearing my words, Cassidy’s expression softened somewhat, though suspicion still filled her eyes.

I sighed. “Cassidy, don’t worry. I won’t fight you for him.”

“Whether it’s Theo or the mansion, I don’t want ANY of it anymore. There’s no need for you to break the law over relationship drama.”

“Relationship drama?” Cassidy laughed. “Delilah, you’re truly naive.”

“Let me tell you the truth-I’m not just after Theo’s affection.”

She rolled up her sleeve, revealing horrific scars on her arm.

“See these clearly, Delilah? You think everyone grew up loved like you did?”

“You have no idea. In our impoverished mountain village, girls were unwanted burdens. My parents frequently beat me for the sake of my so-called brother. They even tried to sell me as a bride to get money for him.”

“Actually, I should thank your father. If he hadn’t killed my brother, I would have been sold off and never reunited with Theo!”

“I’m not just after Theo himself. I want his love, his money, and especially his POWER.”

“I never understood why you insisted Theo disband his criminal operations. They were so useful! With them, no one would dare mess with us again.”
