Toby Jones’ words shocked me for a long time before I could come back to my senses and shook my head at him.
“Mr. Jones, I informed you about my personal boundaries when I came here, so please respect me!”
I knew that, as a boss, he would have considered it as a good advantage.
My refusal came as no surprise to Mr. Jones, he shrugged his shoulders and said only a few words, “In that case, I won’t force you. Anyway, Barbara, you should know that Mr. Chan is not a very nice person, he’s very harsh and cruel, and also vile. I will say no more, but be careful!”
“Thank you, Mr. Jones!”
“Don’t say thank you. I just gave you an advice, make good use of it! But if you really have a friendship with Mr. Quinn, no problem then, because Mr. Chan does not enjoy the same prestige as he does.”
“So... Mr. Chan knew that I was lying?”
“He was beaten up, it’s definitely not what he could endure. He asked somebody to inquire about your background, he then came up with the matter for three days. However, I can’t decide for you, if you want to go then you can fix the price by yourself, moreover I’m sure that if you make it, and you will be safe. If you decide not to go, it’s ok for me, but if something bad happens, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
Mr. Jones was very clear, he won’t take any responsibility even I could be dead. Anyway, I got from his words that he actually hoped I would go. After all, Mr. Chan was a precious customer for him so it was better to keep him well hooked.
Of course, I didn’t expect Mr. Jones to protect me, so I nodded and I told him, “Mr. Jones, don’t worry about me, I only wish you can consider my humble request!”
