"Because of pride, ego, and I was too afraid you won't like me too. You know, I wasn't the common teenager back then. I have a lot of freckles, I have braces, I use glasses and not to mention the insecurities I have in me. So, I tried to change myself, my style. I enrolled in a gym and tried some men's products to treat those pimples and acne."
I was blown away by his revelation. I suddenly realized that every time we have this kind of conversation, I always ended up discovering something new and more surprises from him.
"But then you still ignored me when I turned sixteen, especially when I started showing my feelings." I bit my lip because I know I sounded disappointed.
"I'm sorry," he smiled.
"You're sorry because you met your ex-girlfriend and you fell in love with her?"
"No!" He exclaimed. "I'm sorry because, at that time, I got scared that I might hurt you, besides, you didn't wait for me to move, you started chasing me---"
"Oh, my goodness, please stop!" I interrupted him, laughing. "I don't want to hear that craziness anymore! Let's change the subject!" I immediately grabbed the glass of wine and drank it with just one gulp.
"Would you like some dessert?" He asked afterward.
"Hmm... may sakit lang ang tinatanong," I replied, biting my lower lip.
"What? What did you say?" He asked, confused but smiling.
"You asked me if I would like some dessert, right? Then I said, may sakit lang ang tinatanong."
"What do you mean by that? I can't understand your words,"
I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw how cute his reaction was not to mention how handsome he was when he flashed me a confused smile.
"It's one of the Filipino's witty ways of answering an obvious question with an obvious answer too. You asked me if I would like to have some dessert, well, of course, I'd like to have dessert! And those words mean, only those sick should be asked."
"Hmm..."
I held my breath when he suddenly leaned forward and his face was now less than a foot away.
"Don't worry, I'll take time to study the Filipino language when I get back to the office, so you won't be able to play with me anymore." He then pinched the tip of my nose.
"Alright, I can be your teacher if you want," I winked at him.
"I like that idea, sweetheart,"
