One More Chance novel Chapter 160

We were having lunch in the office when Luke suddenly received a call from his secretary. He excused himself for a while to take the call, so Dana and I were left at the table.

"Hmm... what do you think that call is about?" Curiosity kicked in Dana's head as she really had to kick my feet lightly under the table.

"I have no idea," I shrugged, shaking my head, and continued eating.

"Ohh... I think he suddenly has an urgent meeting today and he will have to go back to the office or somewhere for that meeting."

I stopped stuffing the crispy fried chicken into my mouth and stared at her in disbelief.

"Really? Are you now becoming a fortune teller?" I asked, laughing at her.

"Well, I just got the idea based on your boyfriend's expression." She gave me a shrug. "Come on, look at him and tell me based on his looks that he's not tensed. Tsk. Tsk. Look at his shoulders and then the frown on his forehead---"

"Oh, yeah, yeah, I know I can see him, but let's just ask him when he returned." I continued eating my chicken. Honestly, I have already sensed that his secretary called him for that reason. It's either he will have to go back to the office or he will have to go to their client's place. But since in my mind, I don't want to take it, I don't want to let him go, I just pushed it aside so I could continue eating without disappointment.

But everything that Dana had said and even all I was thinking was true because that's what Luke mentioned first as soon as he sat down next to me.

"Sam..."

"Hmm... yes?" I asked, not looking at him and pretending to be clueless about what he had to say.

And even Dana who was sitting in front of our seats pretended to be ignorant and bit again the previously empty chicken bone on her plate just to listen to what Luke had to say. I really wanted to laugh at her seeing how silly she looked at that moment, but hearing the seriousness in Luke's voice made that laugh in my throat shrink.

"Sweetheart, I'm sorry, but I have to go back to the office."

I held my breath for a few seconds as my mind screamed... -'Yeah, I already knew it!'-

"I have to prepare some documents for the out-of-town meeting."

"Out of the town meeting?" This time, I turned to him, but I did my best not to show disappointment in my voice.

"Yes, my team and I have to fly to Davao City this afternoon for the urgent meeting."

(Davao City, Southeastern Mindanao Island, Philippines.)

"Ahh... what time are you going there?"

"At 3 p.m," he answered briefly.

"Uhm... excuse me, I'm done eating. Sam, I'll go back to the counter," Dana smiled at me before walking towards the door. I know she only had to do it to give us time to talk.

"Okay, then, you have to go now!" I was about to get up but he grabbed my hand.

"Sam..."

"Hmm... why?"

"I'm sorry---"

"Why are you apologizing? You don't have to apologize," I shook my head as I stared at him.

"I'm sorry because I promised to take you out for a date today, but---"

"Hey, it's alright!" I cupped his cheek. "We still can continue our date the next day, besides, we have a lot of time and opportunity to do any kind of date in the future, don't we?" I asked with a wink which caused me to earn a tight hug from him.

"Thank you for understanding, sweetheart, I love you."

I bit my lip as I hugged him tightly. And just like the previous time he mentioned those words, I didn't reciprocate it with the same words. Well, it's not that I couldn't but I'm just waiting for the perfect moment.

And since I didn't say it back, I just replied with a kiss. I cupped both his cheeks and kissed him on the lips. I didn't have to wait for any seconds as he kissed me back in an instant.

"I'll call you when I get there," he said right after ended our kiss.

"How many days are you going to stay there?"

"I don't know, I mean, I still have no idea. Maybe I can come back here tomorrow or the next day," he shrugged.

"Okay, don't forget to call me!" I playfully narrowed my eyes at him.

"I won't forget to call you," he shook his head and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

"And don't forget me even for just a single second!"
