~~~Days have passed and so the nights get colder. All the more I grow to miss you stronger. No, I've never been in love and hurt like this before, but let me ask you one more thing. Can't we try to make up for the bad times? Baby, can't we try to make up for the loving that is still inside? I'm sure it's right this could be forever, let's give it one more try~~~
"Oh, my God, Sam! This is life!" Jack screamed near my ear and I chuckled at her as I have already mentioned that line the last time we went to the same bar. "Come on, let's dance!" She even tugged my arm to go to the dance floor.
"Wait, I'll just finish my drinks," I said bringing the glass of ladies drink to my mouth.
"Make it fast! The music is good, I love it!"
"Fine! Let's go, madam!" I chuckled, letting myself be dragged into the middle where our friends were having fun.
We let the music embraced our soul and body for almost thirty minutes and didn't go back to our seats until we felt exhausted and our makeup was wasted. We were with Paul and two of our high school friends and of course, some of our employees who we invited at the last minute.
"So, how are things going on with you and your boyfriend, Sam? I heard he went back to New York?" Paul asked me the moment we got back to our seats and a smile crept into my lips.
Deep in my mind, I don't have to ask him where he got the information from because I already have an idea.
"Yeah, call of duty," I replied with a shrug, simply raising an eyebrow at my best friend and flashing her a smile that for sure she already understood why.
"Ahh..." He said nodding, bringing the glass of whiskey in his mouth. "Is he that kind of possessive boyfriend?"
"No, he's not possessive." I frowned, immediately shook my head. "He let me do I want as long as it will not affect our relationship. Why do you ask?"
"Well, I was just thinking of inviting him to come with us tonight, but I heard he's already back at work."
"Yeah, he's a surgeon and one of his fellow doctors called him saying he had to go back to his duty."
There were a few questions he asked me about my personal life and since the spirit of alcohol has already mixed into our sanity, I just found myself answering those questions. But of course, I did the same. I put the two in a hot seat where they should have been cornered, but they got a smart ass and just laughed at me.
Jack said they were just friends and so with Paul, but he said if he would be given the chance to be her boyfriend or if Jack would give him a chance to woo her, he would definitely grab that chance.
11:45 pm. The last time I checked the time from my wristwatch was 15 minutes before midnight, but when I checked again, it's already 1:00 in the morning. Jennifer and Rolly, our high school friends already bid their goodbyes including 2 of the coffee shop employees. So, there were only 5 of us left in the group who remained standing and swaying in the middle of the dancefloor.
"Hey, aren't you feel tired?" I asked, dragging Jack towards our table. She seemed like she drank ten bottles of energy drink as she didn't seem to lose her energy.
"Nope!" She giggled and passed me the glass of tequila. "We're not going home until 4:00 in the morning."
"Oh, my God!" I squealed looking at the entrance, but she thought what she said was the reason why I screamed.
"Uhuh! And you can't say no to me this time!" She giggled, shaking her head.
"That's not what I meant! Did you tell my brother where we are tonight?" I asked with my eyes wide open in surprise.
"What? Of course, not! Why would I do that?" She asked me back frowning.
"Holy shit!" I blinked repeatedly to make sure I wasn't just being played by my own eyes. "Am I seeing my brother?"
"What?" But she just laughed at me and ignored what I said.
I know I'm starting to get a little tipsy, but I'm not drunk, so I know it's him I see passing through the sea of dancers and frustrated to become dancers. But the problem is, it's not just him. Luke is with him and they are now walking towards our table.
"He's here! I mean they're here!"
"Who are you talking about---" she asked, turning around and saw the person she hated the most approaching her seat. "Who the hell invited him?"
"That's also my question!" I shrugged. "Did you invite them?"
"Hell, no! Why would I do that?"
I'm not mad, I have no reason to be mad because I know Dale is now taking care of her. The problem is that I also couldn't catch a glimpse of Paul and some of our employees who were just dancing in the middle earlier and another one, I was left with the last person I shouldn't have spoken to... my ex-husband.
I decided to go to the dance floor, but I was just taking my first step when Luke immediately grabbed my arm with a serious expression written on his face.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to dance." I shrugged, taking my hand out of his grip.
"No, no, no! You can't go back there, Sam."
"And why not?"
"Because you're already drunk."
"I said I'm not drunk! Come on, don't be such a party popper, besides I'm not a kid anymore, I know what I'm doing. If you want, you can join me in the middle."
I winked at him and ran immediately to the dance floor.
"Whoa! Let's dance, guys!" I screamed, not bothering of the stares of the millenials around me. Deep in my head... 'You don't own the dance floor'.
And since I was already indulged in my own world, swaying, screaming and giggling, I suddenly forgot Luke presence. I didn't know he followed me on the dance floor, with no intention of dancing. He just stood a few inches from me and watched me enjoy the music. I even sang with the song of Anne Marie that was currently playing at the moment.
"Dancing on the hood in the middle of the woods on an old mustang where we sang songs with all our childhood friends and it went like this, say... Oops, I got 99 problems singing bye, bye, bye. Hold up, if you wanna go and take a ride with me better hit me, baby, one more time, uh..."
I was in closed eyes while dancing freely that I didn't notice the way Luke warned one of the guys who tried to touch me.
"Don't fucking touch her, baby boy, if you don't want to find your head disconnected from your body!" He said narrowing his eyes, so the poor guy disappeared instantly from the dance floor.
"Paint a picture for you and me on the days when we're young, uh... Singing at the top of both our lungs on the day we fell in love. Ooh ooh, ooh-ooh, on the day we fell in love. Ohh ooh, ooh-ooh..."
