One Night With My Alpha Professor novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57
Audrey & Edwin
Audrey’s POV
I stared at Edwin in disbelief as he adjusted the wine-stained scarf around his neck. “You can’t be serious,” I said, reaching. out to tug at the fabric. “It’s completely ruined. Let me make you a new one.”
Edwin shook his head, an uncharacteristic smile playing on his lips. “I like this one, Audrey. It has character.”
“Character?” I scoffed, giving the scarf another pull “It looks like I spilled a bottle of Merlot on it.”
As I tugged on the scarf, it unexpectedly pulled Edwin closer. He stumbled forward, his hand slamming into the wall above my head to steady himself. Suddenly, we were face to face, mere inches apart. I could smell the alcohol on his breath, mingling with his cologne. It made my head spin-or maybe that was just the drinks I’d had earlier.
“Careful.” Edwin murmured, his eyes trailing over my throat before landing on mine. “You might pull me right off my feet.
I swallowed hard, very aware of how close we were. “Sorry,” I whispered… But I must not have been that sorry after all, because I didn’t let go of the scarf.
For a moment, we just stood there, frozen. I could feel the heat radiating from Edwin’s body, see the way his chest rose and fell with each breath. The rational part of my brain was screaming at me to step back, to put some distance between us. Bur the alcohol in my system had other ideas.
Before I could stop myself, I used the scarf to tug Edwin even closer, pressing my lips against his. For a split second, he tensed, and I thought I’d made a terrible mistake,
But then he was kissing me back, his hands finding my waist and pulling me flush against his body.
I moaned softly into his mouth as his fingers slipped beneath the hem of my shirt, skimming along the bare skin of my waist. The scarf was bunched between us, partially hiding our faces from view in the dimly lit hallway.
It was reckless and s**d, but I couldn’t bring myself to care. All I could focus on was the feeling of Edwin’s lips on mine, his wide hands exploring my body.
But then, just as things were starting to heat up, Edwin suddenly pulled away. He stumbled back a few steps, his eyes wide and conflicted. And before I could say anything, he turned and disappeared into the crowd, the scarf still wrapped around his neck.
1 leaned against the wall, trying to catch my breath. What had I done? I had kissed Edwin-my boss, my mentor. We had made a promise that we would never make a mistake like that again, and yet he had kissed me back.
But then he had run away. I groaned, sliding down the wall to sit on the floor.
I’d made a complete fool of myself.
“It’s the alcohol,” I muttered to myself, running a hand through my disheveled hair. “Just blame it on the alcohol.”
After a few minutes of wallowing in self-pity, I forced myself to stand up. I couldn’t hide in the hallway all night. My friends were probably wondering where I had disappeared to. Taking a deep breath, I smoothed down my clothes and made my way back to our table.
AI approached, I noticed that there was an excited buzz in the air. Tina spotted me first, her face lit up with a huge grin

Chapter 57
“Audrey!” she squealed, grabbing my arm. “Where have you been? The results are about to come
My heart sk**e**king me forget about Edwin. “They are? Already?”
Betty nodded enthusiastically. “They should come in any minute now.”
As if on cue, the bartender called out, “I have the results for the fashion contest! And the winner is…”
The bar fell into a tense silence, the bartender pausing for dramatic effect as he pulled a card out of an envelope. I clutched my hands to my chest, my heart pounding from a combination of excitement and bewilderment over what had just happened with Edwin.
And then….
“…Team Audrey!”
For a moment, I couldn’t process those words. We had won? We had actually won the fashion show?
“Are you serious? Tina shrieked, grabbing the paper from the bartender to double-check.
“Holy **t, Betty breathed. “We really did it.”
As the reality sank in, we all started screaming and jumping up and down, hugging each other tightly. People around us started cheering and congratulating us, patting us on the back and offering to buy us drinks.
“I can’t believe it,” I laughed, tears of joy streaming down my face. “We actually won!”
“Of course we did,” Cavin said, grinning from ear to ear. “With your designs and our teamwork, how could we not?”
Tina, grinning, grabbed my face and kissed me firmly on the cheek. “This is amazing,” she breathed, pulling me in for a hug. “Simply amazing.”
I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear; but my grin soon faded when, over Tina’s shoulder, I caught sight of Linda and her team in the opposite corner of the bar. Unlike the rest of the patrons, who were good-naturedly raising their glasses and applauding our victory, they were glaring daggers at us, their faces twisted with anger and disappointment.
“Looks like someone’s not too happy about our win, Tina muttered as we pulled apart, nodding in their direction.
I followed her gaze, meeting Linda’s scowl with a level stare. For a moment, I felt a twinge of sympathy. I knew how much she had wanted to win. But then I remembered all of the nasty things she had said and done to get herself disqualified, and the sympathy quickly faded.
“Let them sulk,” I said, turning back to my friends. “This is our night to celebrate.”
As we clinked our glasses together in another toast, I couldn’t help but scan the room for Edwin. Part of me hoped he would reappear, maybe even congratulate us on our win. But there was no sign of him or the wine-stained scarf.
And somehow, that hurt more than Linda’s cold gaze.
Edwin’s POV
I cursed under my breath, a bead of sweat trickling down my brow as I vigorously scrubbed the scarf in the bathtub. First club soda, then baking soda. Finally, the stain was beginning to lift from the deep red fabric.

Chapter 57
“You sure like that scarf, my wolf teased as I worked.
914%
A low growl rumbled in the back of my throat at his teasing. “Of course I do,” I muttered as I scrubbed at another stain. “It’s the nicest thing anyone has ever given me.”
“And the most thoughtful.”
I nodded in agreement, pursing my lips. Holding up the wet scarf. I let out a small sigh of relief; the stains had lifted. Audrey would be pleased when she saw that I had fixed all of her hard work.
Audrey.
My lips parted on instinct just at the thought of her name, and there was no helping the small tremor that worked its way through me-the tremor that, despite my best efforts, wound its way down into my trousers,
I could still taste her lips on mine, sweet and sour; her cherry lip gloss and a glass of gin and tonic with lime.
It was a shame, really, that the scarf, despite now being cleansed of its stains, no longer smelled like her sweet perfume.
