Matthew’s face changed a little. The atmosphere at the room seemed to be frozen.

“Is there something else?” Eventually, Blanca gave in, for she still needed his help to meet Mr. Butler. She looked down at the hand holding her wrist. She found Matthew had such nice hands, his fingers all white and slender. She wondered why he always liked to hold her wrists.

“Are you short of money, Blanca?” asked Matthew suddenly.

The question came as a surprise to Blanca. She froze for an instant and then she shrugged her shoulders. “Well, you’re right. I like money. I like it a lot, as much as everyone else in the world. Most people work for money, just like me. So, my dream is to make a ton of money,” said Blanca with a smile.

Matthew looked mildly surprised. Evidently, he had not expected Blanca would admit that she loved money. He had seen how people just could not wait to show their disdain for money as if it somehow showed their noble quality. More surprisingly, he thought what she said made sense.
