After forty minutes, Matthew pulled his car over in front of the Grant mansion. He and Blanca came to the door and pressed the bell.
The old butler Mr. Johnson answered the door. He smiled and welcome them in.
“Mr. Grant is still painting in his study and your father is in the backyard. You can go to the backyard first and then to the second floor,” said Mr. Johnson. He placed two pairs of slippers on the floor before Matthew and Blanca entered the house.
Matthew changed his shoes and went to the kitchen to get himself a glass of water.
Blanca was a little slow. By the time she changed her shoes and looked up, she saw a middle-aged woman in a blue silk dress walking towards her.
Her curly hair was tucked nicely and her beautiful almond eyes was filled with bitter.
Blanca thought this must be Matthew’s stepmother Carrie.
“Good evening, Ma’am.”
She greeted her politely.
Carrie looked her up and down despitefully and didn’t answer. She turned around and said to Mr. Johnson, “Get a plastic bag for Miss Roach’s shoes. I can’t stand the smell of cheap leather.”
Mr. Johnson glanced at Blanca awkwardly and didn’t know what to do.
However, Blanca picked up her shoes with a smile and handed them to Mr. Johnson, “Please. I don’t want my shoes to get this disgusting stink of money.”
If somebody was nice to her, Blanca would always repay them tenfold.
But if someone wanted to embarrass her, she would definitely get back at them.
“You!” Carrie was so mad and found it hard to contain her anger, “You nothing but a poor village girl. You gold-digger throw yourself on Matthew and I didn’t know you had got such a mouth.”
