The crowd was getting even bigger, and they started judging Blanca.
“What’s wrong with her? She’s supposed to be loyal to her husband. How could she cheat on him?”
“She is making her mother-in-law so mad, how could she do that? She’s terrible!”
“Ma’am, you’d better talk your son into divorcing her!”
Blanca was so annoyed by the unfriendly, or even mean judgment around her. She was sick of it even though Carried didn’t cause any serious damage by doing so.
Blanca took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She then put up a look at her being wronged.
Her voice was trembly as if tears were about to fall, “Mrs. Grant, I don’t understand why you accused me of something I didn’t do - I am innocent. You can’t blame me for something I didn’t do. You have to stop trying to break apart Matthew and me. Just that you aren’t Matthew’s biological mother and that you wanted your daughter to marry Matthew doesn’t mean you get to do so. You can always tell me when or what I do wrong. I am happy to do better.”
“You...”
Carrie didn’t expect Blanca’s quick change of attitudes - she was calm a moment before, and now she seemed so different!
She stammered and was speechless, but Blanca grabbed Carrie’s hand intimately and shed tears, “Mrs. Grant, I know that Matthew is doing an excellent job at work. And because of him, you think you haven’t been treated the way you deserve. But now Matthew and I are married, I am and always will be a good wife for Matthew. Can you please not meddle in our marriage? Unless..
. You do want Louise to marry Matthew?”
Blanca grew up in the slums, it was seamlessly easy for her to get in any emotions as if she was a professional actress.
Carrie started to panic after hearing what Blanca just had said.
“Another vicious stepmom? Why would she want to sabotage their marriage...”
“Unbelievable... this woman is toxic and vicious.”
“Such a terrible mother-in-law!”
Blanca’s little speech turned Carrie into everyone’s target - they started nattering Carrie instead. Carrie and Louise couldn’t bear the crowd’s pressure anymore. They stared at Blanca angrily and fled.
At this particular moment, Louise pushed Blanca hard and the pendant on Blanca’s neck fell right off!
Blanca forced a smile. But her hands were grabbing the pendant tightly.
Last night Blanca herself gave Louise a hard time, and now Carrie took Louise here trying to get back at her. Blanca was, somehow, envious of what Carrie and Louise had, even though she resented the two of them. But they had each other!
Blanca was envious of Louise as much she was of Malinda, too. Because they had their family around and their family’s unconditional support and protection. This was something she had always been longing for.
She had been all by herself these past years, but she had never stopped yearning for having a family...
