“What’s the rush?” Carrie spat out the skin of a grape and said, displeased, “The family doctor just said that she’s fine, right? She’ll get better after a bit of rest, won’t she?”
“Mom-”
Carrie was frantic. Her mother had come up with the plot. Nothing was supposed to go wrong, but now everything had spiraled south. She was terrified.
Matthew looked like he wanted to flay her alive. If the matter was known by Alan, she was probably going to be judged by the whole family.
“You and your cowardice!” Carrie shook her head, exasperated. She just had to give birth to such a useless daughter.
If her daughter had half her capabilities, she wouldn’t have been unable to get the man Matthew up to this point.
“A while later, you’ll go upstairs and apologize to Blanca directly.”
“Huh? Me, apologize to her?!”
In Louise’s mind, she was the lady of the house, supported and loved by everybody. Who was Blanca again?
Just some country girl, but now she was flying all the way to the top!
As she saw how timid and irresponsible her daughter was, Carrie was fuming.
“How many times have I told you? Watch where the wind blows, and keep a low profile when you need to. Apologize to her properly, and then no matter what, just insist that you hadn’t meant it. With me here, they can’t do anything to you.”
“Really…” Louise looked indecisively at her mother.
Carrie nodded and patted her clothes down. “Come on. Let’s get this done before your grandfather comes back. If he does, and knows about what happened, I can’t help you either.”
With that, Carrie took her daughter’s hand and was about to lead her upstairs.
