The summer sun shone down over the hubbub of the city.

Blanca walked down the bustling street. Nobody noticed her, and the tears in her eyes fell like pearls cut from a string.

She didn’t know how many times she grazed her elbows.

Finally, she sat limply down on a wooden chair outside a café.

Are you dumb, Blanca Roach?

She just had an arrangement with Matthew. It was an arranged marriage. What did his models not showing up have to do with her at all?

“Is this seat taken?”

Someone pulled up a chair in front of her. Blanca shook her head and didn’t notice who it was. She rubbed her eyes and told herself not to be so silly from now on.

She let out a long breath and was about to leave when the person sitting opposite her suddenly spoke. “Is he picking on you, Blanca?”

…it was Todd!

Todd’s beard was a mess. He looked tired. Blanca frowned. She knew that she was past tense with Todd and didn’t want anything more to do with him. So she got up. “My business has got nothing to do with you.”

“Blanca!”

Todd sounded frantic. A small part of Blanca softened.

Her shoulders shook slightly, and she still ended up turning around and looking at him. “Did you need anything?”

“I was wrong, Blanca, I know it… Kylie seduced me, but I should have resisted. Can you just give me a chance?”

Seeing her stop, Todd’s heart leapt, and he walked up trying to take her hand. Blanca dodged away. “We’re through, Todd, and I hope you don’t come to disturb me again. Goodbye.”

She didn’t think she’d meet Todd here of all places. With a sour mood, Blanca turned and left.

“You really aren’t going to give me a chance, Blanca?”
