Of course he wasn’t leaving her out to dry.
Matthew nodded. He’d put Blanca at his side to ward off courtiers, not to run errands for Alan.
Consider how much property there was under the Grant family, if they handed everything big and small over to Blanca to manage, there probably wouldn’t even be a strand of hair left at the end…
“Let’s rescind your order, Grandpa. I’ve already promised to let Blanca come into the office for work,” Matthew said, his face giving nothing away.
What?!
Come to the office to work?!
Blanca had been explaining meekly to the old man how she wasn’t fit to be that sort of manager and had been about to lower herself to the image of an illiterate country bumpkin when Matthew just up and tossed out that depth charge.
Since when had he agreed to let her go to the office and work?
What were the wages? Were there days off?
“Coming to the office to work? Matthew, how could you let Blanca go to the office?” Carrie was displeased again and couldn’t help but speak out.
She’d wanted to put Louise in that office instead, but then the old man had gone and said that girls should stay at home and learned their stuff - play the piano or tend the flowers or something. Carrie had been upset, of course. If her daughter was just being kept in the house to play the piano and tend flowers, how was she supposed to get into the Empire Group?
Or seduce a handsome, wealthy husband?
“Why not?”
Matthew’s simple words had Carrie speechless…
