"Don't go! I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please come back, please," Nadine murmured in her sleep, her face contorted with pain.
Brad withdrew his hand, standing still as he watched the anguish on her face.
Jack? This was the second time he'd heard that name. The first time, Nadine had just uttered it. This time, she spoke more, pleading for him to come back.
What was the connection between Nadine and Jack?
Brad stood by the bedside, looking down at Nadine in her agony. Even as she curled up into herself, he remained unmoved. His eyes were veiled in deep, icy coldness.
After Nadine had endured this torment, Brad cast a cold, disdainful glance her way and left the bedroom. He had thought she would need him at a time like this. Now, he realized how foolish he had been.
Nadine kept saying she loved him, but in her dreams, she called out another man's name. How absurd! Brad suddenly realized he knew nothing about Nadine at all.
As he left Phoenix Villa, the cold rain began to pour. He didn't even bother to put on his coat. Starting the car, he drove away from the villa without a hint of regret.
…
Nadine slept deeply as if she had entered a pitch-black tunnel with no light in sight.
As she moved forward in search of brightness, she kept hearing Jack call her name. She tried to run toward the sound, but she grasped at nothing.
When she was finally exhausted, she saw Jack standing there, covered in blood, staring at her intently. The look in his eyes was terrifying.
