Previously, Victoria had extorted 500 thousand dollars from Nadine with blackmail. Two days had passed and it seemed Nadine had no intention of paying. Seeing her indifferent attitude, Victoria believed that Nadine had secretly told on her to Sophie.
Even though Sophie was old, she was Victoria's only relative. If Sophie spoke out against her actions, it would mean Victoria's efforts were in vain.
As such, Victoria was highly vigilant upon seeing Nadine appear in Sophie's ward. She even seemed intent on forcing Nadine to leave.
Sophie was blind but still had her hearing. She coughed and scolded Victoria, "Victoria, how can you speak to Nad like that?
"Nad is an outsider, yet she treats me better than you do, my own granddaughter. She's more considerate and closer to me than you are. You shouldn't treat her this way."
As Sophie spoke, she reached out toward where Nadine was standing, her hand feeling around. "Nad, come over here. Come to me."
Nadine smiled slightly, casting a sidelong glance at the irate Victoria, completely unfazed by her provocation.
Nadine went to Sophie's side and took her hand. She spoke gently, "Grandma Sophie, you shouldn't speak ill of Victoria. She is also your granddaughter. She's been putting in a lot of effort to raise funds for your medical expenses."
Sophie was blind, so Nadine held her hand while raising an eyebrow at Victoria. Nadine had inquired about the cost of the surgery, which was more than enough at 300 thousand dollars. So why did Victoria say it was 500 thousand dollars?
Nadine highly suspected that Victoria was pocketing the difference.
Victoria became even more alert when Nadine mentioned the medical expenses. She glared at Nadine and warned in a low voice, "Stop making baseless accusations."
