Even though Nadine had made up her mind to get a divorce, she wavered when Brad agreed to remove Jean from the picture. She couldn't help but feel her heart flutter.
If he could give up on Jean and focus on their life together, wouldn't that be her dream come true? After all, that familiar face and the heart beating within him were things she wanted to protect for the rest of her life.
Brad was about to speak up when Nadine stopped him. "Hold on! Don't say a word. Hear me out first, then you can give me your answer."
After taking a deep breath, she ruminated for a moment before continuing, "When you were young, you met someone special, someone who held a place in your heart like no one else. However, due to various reasons, you had to give her up, and you realized that the two of you could never be together.
"The heartbreaking part is that you had to part ways, but you couldn't forget her. Hence, you were constantly torn between wanting to hold on to her and wanting to let her go. You wanted to cut all ties with her and disappear from her life, but you were also terrified of losing her.
"So, you're stuck in this endless cycle. Night after night, you lay awake, thinking of her, your tears dampening the pillow. The heartache, helplessness, and the inability to let go weigh like a boulder on your chest. Only those who've been through it can understand this unspoken pain."
Nadine paused for a moment before asking, "Brad, do you know what that feeling is?" Her words were a mirror of her own experiences. She wouldn't have such a deep understanding of it if she hadn't loved someone deeply before.
The man gazed at her blankly for a while, struggling to come up with an answer. In the end, he asked, "What is it called?"
