Jean was Brad's first love, and he'd always put her on a pedestal. Nadine didn't believe he could change his mind just because of something she said. Her brows drew together as she looked at Brad in disbelief.
She couldn't come to terms with what she had just heard. Brad would give up on Jean? In that split second, a million thoughts raced through her mind. If he meant what he said, that would be the best-case scenario.
Just then, she remembered Jean's lipstick stain on his collar and the desperate look on his face when he had rushed her to the hospital. The whirlwind in her mind stilled in an instant.
Men couldn't be trusted. The two of them wouldn't be in this mess if he could so easily give up on Jean. As soon as that thought took root, Nadine knew what she had to do. "Brad, I have my own boundaries, just like you. I can't tolerate being lied to."
She paused for a moment before adding, "I find it hard to believe anything you say."
Brad gazed at Nadine. In truth, she wasn't the kind of beauty that would take your breath away at first glance. Still, she was very easy on the eyes. She was the kind of woman who would grow on people the more they looked at her.
Nadine had the softest, rosiest skin, and her eyes were like obsidians. When she looked at someone, she had a way of drawing them in. Those eyes of hers could put anyone under her spell.
At that moment, her almond-shaped eyes shone brilliantly like stars, but there was no warmth in them, just a cold and calm stillness. The look in her eyes made his heart sink.
"Look here, I'm Brad Hamilton, and I am a man of my word! Why can't you trust me?" He questioned her, tightening his grip on her shoulders, causing her to let out a whimper.
