Feeling rather displeased, Xavia replied, “…Bring his gift over…”
“Very well,” replied the housekeeper before hurrying off to get it. He had made sure to properly store it since it was a gift from the great Zivon Burton, and barely a minute later, he returned and said, “Here it is.”
Upon opening the gift, Xavia found herself momentarily too stunned to even say a word. After all, within the box was what appeared to be a beautifully made herbal cake. Aside from its tantalizing colors, its rich aroma made it clear that it was made with only the finest of herbs. What’s more, there was even a card in the box that wrote, ‘I baked this, and I had a doctor appraise its healthiness. May you live a good long life, Madam.’
In all honesty, the gift wasn’t as expensive as most of the things Yasmin had received. Even so, it was by far the most valuable thing she had gotten from this birthday party! After all, the great Zivon Burton had specifically taken the time to learn how to bake just to make her this gift! Since he was willing to go so far for his mother-in-law, it made it clear that he was willing to go the extra mile for Xavia as well.
“…You know, I once met him at congress, and he hadn’t even bothered to pour me a glass of water… What a pleasant surprise that I now get to taste a cake he made specifically for me!” muttered Yasmin.
“As it turns out, he’s willing to sacrifice his ego in the name of love… You know, I think I can now safely say that we can wed our daughter to that man without any worry…” added Homer.
Though it was nice that her parents were praising him, Xavia couldn’t help but feel slightly conflicted. Sure, he had learned to make simple dishes for her, but a cake? She could’ve never expected that! So that was why he was with Fiona in the past few days! He had been learning how to bake a cake for her mother! To think that she had misunderstood him so badly after he made so much effort to learn…
It took her a while, but she eventually said, “…I… I want to meet up with him now.”
