After class, Harry asked someone to lead the disciples of the Xiao Clan to the pharmacy where they were going to learn how to identify medicinal flowers and herbs under the guidance of a beast curer from their clan.
Rocky's face was blank as he joined the tail end of the group. 'If I had known this, I shouldn't have gone to the disciples recruitment interview yesterday; I'd much rather be with the lonely beasts in the beast farm!' he thought.
At this moment, a figure approached Rocky. Rocky turned his head and recognized him—Jonas.
"I don't even know your name. Would you at least tell me that first?" Jonas asked with a smile.
"You can call me Rookie," Rocky replied with one eyebrow arched. "Alright then, Rookie. By the way..." Jonas started but did not continue. He looked flushed as if he was embarrassed of whatever he was about to say.
He was visibly hesitant.
"Just say it. Suppressing your feelings will do you no good," Rocky remarked as he noticed Jonas' expression.
"I just wanted to ask how you were able to catch everything Master Harry told us during class. I barely remember half of it. Then I realized you were practically asleep during half the class," Jonas replied with a slight chuckle.
"Maybe I'm just a bit cleverer than you." Rocky, of course, was being falsely modest. He knew he was more than a bit cleverer than Jonas. He was a gifted man with an extremely retentive memory.
"Could you please share what you learned from Master Harry with me when you're free? I could really use some help so I can understand it better," Jonas begged with a hopeful expression.
"You seem like a diligent man," Rocky commented as he flashed Jonas a quick look.
"To be honest, I had worked for a whole year before I finally became a member of the Xiao Clan last month. I was orphaned at a young age. My sister and I grew up with our grandpa. Our life wasn't easy and it's just getting harder. My grandpa is old and my sister is young. They only have me to rely on. I work so hard each day so they could live a good life." Jonas started to tear up. It was obvious that his life hadn't been easy.
Rocky reached out to pat his back. "There, there. Don't cry. You're a strong man," he said. "Just come with me to the beast farm in the afternoon." Rocky saw Jonas' sincerity and it made him go soft in him.
"Really? Thank you so much, Rookie." Jonas smiled as he wiped his tears.
The morning classes finally ended. Rocky stifled a yawn. That felt like an entire year for him. Xiao Clan disciples had classes to attend in the morning and assigned work to accomplish in the afternoon. Rocky was a servant in the beast farm; he could just go to the beast farm after the classes as he had no other obligations.
Supposedly, as soon as he became a Xiao Clan disciple, he wouldn't be obliged to do chores in the beast farm. Obviously, that did not happen. Rocky figured that Mary was behind it. She probably found a way to make sure he still suffered in the beast farm and continued working as an inferior. But she didn't know that that was exactly what Rocky wanted. He wanted a reason to stay long hours in the beast farm so he could study various spirit-manipulated beasts. If he was transferred elsewhere, he wouldn't be able to conduct extensive research.
What Rocky absolutely hated was the fact that he still had to go to classes every day for at least half a month. The classes were too simple for him. He felt like he was wasting his time. Rocky proceeded to the beast farm with Jonas. "I didn't know you work in the beast farm. I am so envious of you.
