"You're just throwing your money away!" Connor shook his head, still convinced of his own opinion.
Numbers like that simply wouldn't be drawn.
He then processed a ticket and handed it to Hayden.
"Don't put too much pressure on yourself since it's your first time. It's only two bucks, so it's no big deal," Connor reassured him.
Hayden took the ticket silently and left with Jenny.
"Hayden, they all said you can't win. Do you really think you can?" Jenny asked curiously.
"What do you think?" Hayden replied with a casual smile.
"If winning the lottery was that easy, there'd be millionaires everywhere!" Jenny's big, bright eyes were filled with doubt.
Without saying anything else, Hayden chuckled and ruffled her hair.
Now, all they had to do was wait for the results.
Today was the last day of the month, the day the winning numbers would be announced.
Hayden felt lucky that Roy had brought it up. Otherwise, he would have missed out.
After all, those were the only numbers he could remember.
He'd often heard that lotteries were manipulated and were usually rigged by insiders. So this time, he thought to put it to the test.
"I still believe in the fairness of the lottery. It shouldn't let me down," Hayden whispered to himself.
When they got home, James and Serena had already prepared dinner.
Jenny didn't dwell on Hayden's lottery ticket. She was quickly distracted by the spread of delicious dishes.
The family enjoyed a cheerful meal, filled with laughter and conversation.
…
Meanwhile, a luxury car cruised down the street, soon arriving at the entrance of an upscale neighborhood—Sapphire Heights.
