"I don't think so," Francis said slowly, his tone measured. "He's just a nobody. How could he know so much? I guess he accidentally stumbled on some information and used it to run his mouth in front of everyone."
Morgan considered Francis' words, nodding after a moment. "That does make sense..."
Francis waved him off. "You should head out. I'll keep looking into this. In the meantime, you need to figure out your next steps. Think about where you want to go to college. You missed your chance at applying through the SAT, but I'll make sure you get into a good college another way."
Francis' tone was firm but encouraging, and his eyes were full of expectation.
"I understand, Dad," Morgan replied as he clenched his fists, his voice trembling with determination. "I'll figure it out. I promise I won't let you down again!"
"That's all I ask for," Francis said with a nod, a hint of a smile softening his features.
Morgan turned and left the study. When he entered the living room, a crowd awaited him.
Charlotte and his three sisters sat on the couch, looking at him with worry etched across their faces.
"Morgan, are you okay? Did Dad chew you out?" Lily jumped up, rushing to his side. She fussed over him, patting his shoulders and arms as if checking for bruises.
"No, it's fine," Morgan said quickly, smiling to reassure her.
"Don't worry, Lily. Dad didn't punish me. He actually encouraged me to do better." Hearing this, the tension in the room melted away, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness," Charlotte said, pulling Morgan into a tight hug, her eyes brimming with tears.
