Soon, they arrived at Hayden's destination. It was Stonybrook's only emerald market, which also happened to be the largest gemstone hub in the province.
After paying the fare, Hayden stepped out of the cab with Jenny.
"Wow! Are you buying me an emerald? I… I've never owned any precious gemstones before!" Jenny's eyes sparkled with excitement as she looked at Hayden.
"If you see something you like, let me know, and I'll get it for you. But on one condition. You have to behave and make good use of this summer break to focus on your studies." Hayden said with a smile, attempting to convince Jenny to study hard.
"Hmph! Even if you didn't buy me anything, I'd still be an excellent student, okay?" Jenny said proudly.
"Alright, if you say so!" Hayden chuckled and nodded.
As they were about to enter the market, Hayden suddenly sensed something and glanced back. A cab had just pulled up at the entrance, but the passenger inside made no move to get out.
He frowned but ultimately decided to continue walking with Jenny. He could only hope nothing was amiss. If someone was indeed tailing him, the Sterling family was his first guess.
But if it really was the Sterlings…
Hayden scanned his surroundings, hoping that he could quickly find a knife.
Meanwhile, Christina waited until Hayden walked away before she finally stepped out of the cab. She let out a long breath and felt uneasy.
She questioned whether Hayden had noticed her, but that couldn't be possible. There was no way he could have spotted her!
Her plan was to follow him and orchestrate a coincidental encounter. From the looks of it, the girl with him was probably his sister. Building rapport with her would be the perfect way to get closer to Hayden.
In the meantime, Hayden and Jenny wandered through the vibrant stalls. There were a lot of people there. The air buzzed with the sounds of bargaining and lively chatter.
Jenny was like a kid in a candy store, marveling at everything around her. She flitted from one stall to another, too nervous to touch anything for fear of breaking it. Just being able to look at the products up close made her happy.
