"Five thousand?" Hayden and Jenny were stunned as they turned to look at Christina. That price was a far cry from fifty thousand! How could that possibly work?
Just as they were thinking about that, they heard a reply. "Deal. I'll wrap it up for you!" The shopkeeper quickly put on a pained expression while packaging the bracelet.
The three of them were left utterly dumbfounded. The bracelet was listed at 50 thousand, but the deal was closed so easily at only five thousand. That was unexpected.
"Hold on… You…" Christina fumbled for words, unsure what to say. She felt like a fool, completely played.
Her intention had been to offer an obviously low, non-negotiable price to make it clear the bracelet wasn't worth that much. She thought the shopkeeper would decline, thus sparing Hayden and Jenny from feeling pressured.
Who could have guessed he'd agree?
"Hayden, do you think we could've bought it for just 500?" Jenny asked carefully.
"I have no idea," Hayden muttered.
Although he had done some basic research beforehand, he wasn't confident enough to avoid being swindled.
The gap between 50 thousand and five thousand was too vast. It was clear something was off.
"You're here too," Hayden said, glancing at Christina and greeting her casually.
"Yeah… just taking in the sights," Christina replied awkwardly, her expression strained as she paid.
Thankfully, the deposit of 50 thousand from Lily gave Christina some breathing room. Even so, spending five thousand on one go felt like a punch in the gut.
The shopkeeper wrapped up the bracelet and handed it to Christina. She looked at it, feeling a mix of frustration and regret. If only she had offered 500 instead!
"So… how much is this bracelet really worth?" Christina suddenly asked the shopkeeper.
