It was no wonder that Hayden was so furious.
Suddenly, Charlotte seemed to have thought of something.
"Are you trying to pull our legs? I remember cooking a celery dish for you, and you ate it all. It was the day after you came back. I made it especially for you. Have you forgotten? You even said that it was delicious!"
She seemed to be clinging to that memory like a lifeline, her expression growing frantic.
However, Hayden started laughing. His laughter was filled with bitterness and helplessness.
"Yes, I ate it. But did you know how sick I was that night from all the vomiting? I told you on the very first day that I didn't like celery, yet you still made it for me the next day.
"I didn't want to upset you, so I forced myself to eat it. Thankfully, later on, you guys didn't even let me join you at the dining table. So, at least I didn't have to endure your disdain anymore."
Hayden's mocking gaze swept across all three of them. He made no attempt to hide the disgust in his eyes.
"How… How could this be? How?"
Charlotte was horrified, and her face turned pale once more.
Imagining herself in Hayden's shoes, she could now see the helplessness and forced compliance he had to have endured back then.
All he wanted was to be a little more likeable, so he had silently endured everything. In return, the Sterling family's indifference toward him only grew.
Charlotte started trembling violently as she was overwhelmed by sadness. She felt deeply regretful now.
Why had she behaved like that in the past? Why?
"Get lost. I don't want to see you guys ever again!"
Hayden turned around, ready to head back inside.
