Night had fallen, and the sky was dotted with stars.
Hayden lay in bed, trembling from the pain that coursed through his body. It was unbearable.
He had researched it. Once moisture seeped into the body, it wasn't something easily dealt with. He would have to live with this pain from now on.
"It hurts so much!" Hayden recalled his previous life. The same pain had lingered for a long time, only ending with his death. This time, it seemed it would last even longer.
Just then, a knock echoed through the room. Hayden slowly rolled out of the bed and opened the door, surprised to find James standing there.
"Dad? It's late. Why aren't you asleep yet?" Hayden asked, puzzled.
"I could smell the smell of pain relief patches on you. Are you hurt? Please talk to me. I had used those patches a lot back in the day," James said softly and cautiously, not to wake anyone else.
Hayden hesitated momentarily before lifting his sleeve, revealing his joints, each covered in pain relief patches.
There were at least a dozen, meticulously cut and placed around his joints. Hayden had cut the patches into small pieces so he could place them in multiple spots without them being too obvious.
If he had used full-sized patches on each joint, the scent would've been unbearable for everyone in the house.
"What happened? Why do you put so many patches on it?" James asked with shock and concern. The sight of Hayden like this pained him deeply.
"It's nothing, really. I was just in some pain, so I put on the pain relief patches. Dad, don't worry about it. I'm really fine." Hayden said, a faint smile appearing on his lips.
"You were fine before. Did this happen during your stay with the Sterling family?" James' tone turned sharp as he voiced his suspicion.
