Nathan felt a sharp pang in his heart. "Mom."
His face was etched with pain.
"Mom, today is the anniversary of your passing. I'm here to see you.
"It's been seventeen years since you left me. I'm sorry I haven't visited more.
"I've had my reasons.
"Mom, you trusted me to your best friend and then left this world without a second glance. But you never knew the man who took Dad away was actually your best friend. And you certainly didn't know that she broke her promise and handed me over to traffickers...
"Mom, I'm telling you the truth today because tomorrow I'm going to confront them once and for all. I hope you won't blame me for being too harsh."
The rain poured down harder, the wind ripping Nathan's umbrella away and leaving him exposed to the storm's wrath.
He let the umbrella go and knelt, defeated, in front of the tombstone.
