Cameron was left speechless when he saw the little girl. The surprise in his eyes was impossible to hide, and he sprang to his feet, exclaiming, "Is it really you?"
His secretary looked on, clearly confused.
Cameron waved her off, "You can leave us for now."
Just as she was about to leave, Cameron stopped her, "Oh, and Matt, could you grab some snacks? Something healthy, please."
The secretary's eyes widened in astonishment as she glanced at Nina. Her gut feeling told her that this little girl's presence was significant.
And for a split second, she thought she noticed a resemblance between the CEO and the little one, which made her quickly scurry out.
Inside the office, Nina waddled over to Cameron, hands tucked in her pockets, like a little penguin. She tilted her head up, her expression a charming mix of cute and sassy, "I saw you this morning."
Cameron's jaw dropped slightly, "And?"
Nina, with a surprising maturity, questioned, "Why were you there?"
Cameron answered honestly, "I was looking for you."
"Why were you looking for me?" Nina's bright eyes were filled with caution.
Cameron paused, then locked eyes with Nina, "You don't like me coming to find you?"
He got up, walked around his desk, and stood in front of her.
The height difference was obvious, but Nina held her ground with a presence that matched his.
Cameron studied her for a moment, moved by the determination in her eyes. "It seems you really don't like me," he muttered softly.
Nina replied, "It's not that I don't like you."
Cameron's eyes flickered with hope, "So you do like me?"
Nina shook her head, "It's not about liking or disliking. You're just a stranger to me."
The hope in Cameron's eyes faded.
