Nathalie tried to brush off the lingering doubts that clouded her mind. With a warm smile, she linked her arm through Nathan's, happily accompanying him to dinner.
Nathan was eager to show just how hungry he was, diving into the food with enthusiasm. Nathalie, feeling a wave of compassion, gently patted his head. "Is your appetite back now that you're on the mend? Eat up, it'll help you bounce back quicker."
Nathan nodded, his smile not quite reaching his eyes, which held a hint of scheming.
"Why did you let Greta move in, sis? Haven't you always had a thing against her?" Nathan asked.
Nathalie's face fell, her expression a mix of struggle and guilt. "I just can't shake the feeling that I owe her. Her mom gave up custody because of me, and that guilt lingers."
Nathan, with a flash of righteous anger, replied, "You gave her a kidney, Nathalie. You've more than repaid any debt. It's them who've been exploiting your upbringing, their greed knows no bounds."
Suddenly, Nathalie reached out and clasped Nathan's hand firmly.
Nathan paused his rant. "I just don't want you living like that, all tied up in knots."
Nathalie smiled softly. "I've often wondered why my life was so tough. Now I get it—fate wanted me to find you. You're so amazing that I had to go through all that to be worthy of your love."
Nathan was touched. "I went through my own battles just to meet you!"
Nathalie nodded, their hands interlocking tightly.
After lunch, Nathan headed back to his study to tackle some work.
He called Dominick in on purpose.
"Shut the door."
