Nathalie shook her head, clearly puzzled. "Why should I know him? Is there some reason I should?"

"Then why did you specifically choose to visit him?" the officer pressed.

Nathalie explained, "I was actually looking for his mother. Sadly, she passed away years ago, so I ended up settling on him."

Officer Ashburn squinted, trying to piece things together. "You're after his mother?"

"Yeah," Nathalie replied. "I had some questions about advanced AI robots that I wanted to ask her. In my desperation, I found him instead."

Officer Ashburn was skeptical, studying Nathalie closely.

Nathalie met her gaze with unwavering honesty.

Not finding any cracks in Nathalie's story, Officer Ashburn decided to lay it out straight. "No. 13 doesn't want to see you."

Nathalie's face fell. She pleaded, "Could you at least pass on a message? Tell him if he's willing to help me, I'll take care of his friends and family outside these walls."

Officer Ashburn gave a knowing smile. "Looks like you really don't know him. He's a loner, doesn't acknowledge his family. There's no one out there he's worried about."

Nathalie was taken aback.

She thought to herself: How could someone so cold and detached create someone like Nathan, who’s so open-hearted and kind?

She started doubting whether she should even bother trying to see him.

But Officer Ashburn wasn't ready to let this chance slip by. She eagerly encouraged Nathalie, "Ashley, I’ll try to convince him to meet with you."

Nathalie hesitated, then sighed, "Alright then."

Officer Ashburn stood up, shaking Nathalie's hand. "Hang tight for some good news, Ashley."

Once Officer Ashburn left, Nathalie slumped back into her chair.

She felt like she was running around like a headless chicken, unsure if all her efforts would amount to anything.
