Chapter 185 Gratitude or Expectation?
Kate looked coldly at Holly, who could hardly contain her tears, then cast her eyes over the disapproving looks from those around them because of Holly’s outburst. She spoke evenly, “Take her to the stairwell.”
The bodyguard promptly hoisted Holly as though she were made of glass and made for the stairwell. In a fever of panic, Holly writhed and shouted, “Madam, what do you intend to do…
“Quiet!”
Kate’s voice was steeped in cool contempt, her gaze issuing a silent threat. “Say one more word, and you’ll be shown the door.”
Holly quickly shut her mouth, guided to the stairwell by the bodyguard. As Kate trailed behind leisurely, Holly’s eyes begged for clemency. “Please, Madam, please help me!”
Holly was at her wits end.
Ruth remained detained, not yet freed from the police station after causing a commotion at the international design contest. A second person, Maia, was also in custody. Holly’s effort to post bail for Ruth had fallen through, leaving her in a financial predicament. Her plea for help to Simon was in vain, as he had severed all ties with her.
The debt collectors were unsympathetic to her distress. Faced with legal action if she failed to clear her debts, Holly wouldn’t even open her door. Amidst the upheaval and conflict, she tripped and fell, ending up in a disarrayed state.
Begging for additional time, Holly remembered the recent whispers about Eric’s admittance to Silverwood Hospital, where Kate was rumoured to be. Taking her chances, she slipped into the hospital, her face still puffy from the fall, making her unrecognisable to the guards. Yet, she couldn’t manage to approach Eric’s VIP ward.
Catching sight of Kate leaving the VIP ward, Holly cautiously approached.
With her arms folded, Kate looked on at the tearful Holly without an ounce of sympathy. Her voice was impersonal, “Why should I help you? What ties do we have?”
Holly paused, eyeing Kate warily. She faltered, “Madam, I’ve been at your service at Summer Estate for three years.
Kate scoffed, “Am I supposed to be grateful for that?”
Holly shook, “There’s no need for thanks, Madam. Just a loan of seventy–five thousand dollars.”
The bodyguards became tense.
