Chapter 457 It’s Too Early To Have A Child Now
Finished
As soon as Agnes laid eyes on the young couple, her emotions got the best of her. She looked like she might rush over in excitement.
“Grandina, take it easy,” Madelyn said, noticing how thrilled she was. Her own face was lit up with a warm
smile.
Then Sebastian, ever thoughtful, turned toward the rest of the family and greeted them with a polite nod. “Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom.”
Hearing that, the elders all nodded in return.
At a glance, it was clear Madelyn had become noticeably more mature and grounded. Steven couldn’t help but nod in approval. He stood up, leaning on his cane. “All right, now that everyone’s here, let’s get started/ with the meal.”
“Yes, yes, time to eat!” Agnes chimed in. “Oh, look at me, seeing you two lovebirds got me so excited I nearly forgot we haven’t even had dinner. Let’s sit down, quick!”
At her cheerful urging, the family made their way to the dining table.
Steven took his seat at the head, with Agnes right beside him. Nigel and Marsha sat on the right side, while the young couple took their places to the left, seated comfortably next to Agnes.
The dinner spread was truly impressive–a feast laid out with such a variety that it was hard to take it all in at once. The table was covered with dishes featuring both land and sea fare.
Agnes, practically glowing with happiness, eagerly filled the young couple’s bowls. “Come on now, you two need to eat more!”
“Thank you, Grandma,” Madelyn said sweetly. Sebastian seemed
to be in high spirits, too.
As the meal went on, they could hear Agnes murmuring under her breath, “I’ve been waiting day and night for this. Now that I get to see the two of you, I’m so happy I could cry. I wish I could see you every single day.”
But before she could go any further, Steven scoffed. “In your dreams. These kids are off living their own lives. You think they’ve got time to hang around with you all day?”
The table burst into laughter at his jab.
Agnes shot back, clearly put out. “Really now, all I said was one thing and you’re already going off on me. I know the kids are busy, all right? I was just saying it for fun.”
“Daydreams won’t get you anywhere,” Steven added with a grunt. “Let’s try to live in the real world.”
“You’re such a pain, Steven,” Agnes snapped. “Always running that mouth of yours. Not even a good meal can shut you up.”
The banter between the two elders had everyone chuckling.
Madelvn couldn’t help but laugh too. She found Agnes completely adorable. So she grinned and said.

“Oh, my!” Agnes exclaimed with a laugh, immediately wrapping Madelyn in a hug. “You always know the right thing to say. You’ve made me so, so happy.”
“Heh, talking’s easy,” Marsha suddenly chimed in from her spot at the table.
Madelyn’s smile faded instantly, and she straightened up, not daring to laugh anymore.
Marsha went on with a hint of annoyance, “You and Sebastian are the same. If we don’t invite you over, you’d never think to stop by on your own, would you?”
“I’m sorry…” Madelyn said quietly.
Sebastian quickly stepped in. “Mom, don’t take it out on Madelyn. If anyone’s at fault, it’s me. I’ve just been buried in work lately and didn’t think to visit. That’s on me, not her.”
Marsha was caught off guard. She’d only said a few words, yet her son was already rushing to shield his wife. It left a sour feeling in her chest. “All right, all right,” she said, clearly flustered. “Looks like your wife’s the only one who matters to you now. Your poor mom doesn’t count anymore.”
“Mom, that’s not what I meant,” Sebastian hastily clarified.
Watching it unfold, Nigel let out a sigh and frowned. “Marsha, seriously? How old are you? Still arguing with the kids like this? Grow up, will you?”
“I…” Marsha faltered. She hadn’t expected her own husband to call her out. Her composure cracked a little.
After that, the room fell quiet, and the tension started to ease. Agnes took the opportunity to load more food onto Madelyn’s plate. “Come on, Maddie, eat up.”
“Grandma, that’s plenty,” Madelyn said, a bit flustered. “I really can’t eat any more.”
But Agnes was relentless, piling more and more onto her plate until it was almost overflowing. Meanwhile, she kept loading her own plate just as enthusiastically. Madelyn could only stare, inwardly groaning.
Her stomach was small to begin with–how much did Agnes expect her to eat?
“You can’t eat?” Agnes said with disapproval. “That’s not going to work. You’re going to be pregnant someday, you know. You’ve got to eat well. If you can’t even finish this, how are you going to manage carrying a baby?”
Madelyn was left completely speechless, helplessly watching as her plate turned into a mini mountain. Then Agnes seemed to notice something. She squinted at Madelyn’s midsection.
“Huh, that’s strange,” she said. “You two have been engaged for a while now. How come there’s still no baby bump?”
Without hesitation, she set down her fork and gently reached over to touch Madelyn’s stomach. As expected, it was flat as a board.
Agnes frowned immediately. “Oh, you two. I really don’t know what to say. You know, I ran into some of my old classmates the other day. Every one of them already has grandkids–plump, chubby ones, some even seven or eight years old! But you two? Not even a whisper of a baby!”
