"I have every right to cheat. Who are you to stop me? You were nobody when I met you." The words of a mentally ill wolf.
I wrinkled my nose in disgust immediately I heard those words and turned to the direction from which they came from.
A few feets away from me was the wolf who had spoken. There was a whore seated on his lap. Another she-wolf who I assume was his mate was standing before him. She looked devastated. Her face was covered in tears and my blood boiled.
"You're a punk for cheating on your mate," I yelled at the wolf and he cocked his head to look at me. I rarely spoke this way, but I was just too pissed off. How dare he treat his mate that way?
"Like yours don't cheat on you," He scoffed and I glared at him.
"My mate is nothing like you."
"Lies. All wolves cheat. It's our nature to cheat."
I clenched my fists, annoyed at how he used a popular saying in the human world here. We were wolves and wolves were known to be faithful to their partners. It was the whole idea of the mate bond after all.
"Fuck you," Janice, my best friend yelled at him. "There are faithful wolves."
Janice turned to me and said; "Just forget about him. He isn't worth our time"
"She should just leave the relationship," I said, referring to his heart-broken mate.
"She won't, because society is against she-wolves who are unable to work things out with their mates. It is sad," Janice, my best friend said.
"I would love to see her leave. She deserves better. Imagine Sebastian cheating on me."
Speaking of Sebastian. I Iooked around the room. I had gotten a message from Sebastian, my mate, that he was planning a proposal because the pack's mating rite ceremony was around the corner.
Seb and I were fated mates and this was something I was grateful to the moon goddess for since the day I found out. I liked Seb. I liked him since the first day I saw him. I was only thirteen at the time, and was too timid to talk to boys. Sebastian, being the nephew of the Alpha made things worse. It made me feel that he was way above my level, so we never talked to each other.
Fast-forward to when I turned sixteen, Seb and I got to know that we were fated mates and ever since then, life was blissful. We started dating on spot and today was our fifth year anniversary.
"I know you want Seb to put a ring around your finger and get you laid already, but don't make it too obvious," my best friend, Janice teased.
I turned away from the entrance and looked at my friend. My face turned red and I smiled sheepishly. "I've just been anticipating this day since forever."
"I know." Janice laughed. "But, stop looking around for him too much. Dance and have fun a little before he arrives."
"How do I look?" I asked Janice for the one millionth time. I had invested a lot to look good tonight. I had even spent my savings on the dress I wore so I could fit into the image of being the Alpha's nephew mate, but I still needed to be reassured.
Janice, however, was no longer looking at me. I followed her gaze and it fell on Sebastian. And no, he was not alone. His arm was wrapped around my step-sister's waist.
"They must have met on their way here," Janice said immediately she noticed that I saw them. "Well... You trust your mate, don't you?"
I nodded.
Janice was right. I should trust Sebastian even if his arm were wrapped around my step-sister's waist. After all, I got a message to meet Sebastian here because he was about to propose to me.
Janice looked at me and I looked back at her. Like me, she doubted that Seb was not cheating on me with my step-sister.
Like it was hard for me to say so to myself, it was hard for her to tell me.
"Even if he is cheating," She began. "It'll be his loss, not yours."
My face slackened, but I quickly covered it up with a fake smile. "I trust my mate."
Janice nodded and moved her eyes away from me to Sebastian. I saw her eyes dilate and I looked at Sebastian too.
My jaw muscles tensed and the pigment in my skin disappeared.
This time, Sebastian's arm was not only wrapped around Taylor's waist. They were kissing.
Dakota, my wolf lost it. My nails were beginning to elongate and it took a lot from me to stop Dakota from surfacing.
My knees weakened and immediately they got to the ground. Janice held my shoulders.
"Rita, he is not worth it. Let's leave this place." Janice tried to help me up to my feet and when she finally did, I grabbed a glass of wine from the counter before me and matched to where Sebastian and Taylor were. I emptied its contents on them, interrupting their kiss.
This time, everyone's eyes were on us. There were sounds of ‘ahhhs’ and ‘ohhhs’ everywhere.
"What the hell, Rita," Seb lashed out and I flinched. For the first time in my life, I saw how much of a jerk Sebastian was. His eyes darkened as soon as they fell on me.
