Chapter 89
RITA’S POV
“Is something wrong with our pup?” The worried look on Leo’s face broke my heart.
I opened my mouth to talk, but the words could not come out. How could I bring myself to tell him that I had lost our pup?
I turned to Janice and she gave me a small nod. Without thinking much, I got out of the bed, and stood before him. “Yes, our pup is dead,” I said and I looked up at his face, awaiting his response. At this point, if he snaps, I would not blame him. He has done more than enough for him and all I needed to do was to give him an heir, but it turned out that I was unable to do
So.
I was about to take a few steps backwards, but what he did next was something I did not expect.
He hugged me.
“This must be really hard for you,” He said. “But maybe it is not our time yet. When it’s our time to have a pup, we will definitely have one.”
“Is that what you think?” I asked, surprised to hear those words from him. “You’re not going to blame me for being careless and losing our pup?”
“Why will I do that? It is our responsibility to take our pup. I should have been closer to you and we should have spent more time together.”
I smiled.
At that moment, Aunty Freya walked in with the pack healer. She started talking gibberish as soon as she saw me.
I heaved a sigh of frustration. For the past few days, Aunt Freya has been acting normal without having a mental breakdown and I almost forgot that she had a mental sickness.
Luckily, the mental breakdown was mild. There were times Aunt Freya threw knives and the last thing I wanted to see today was not that kind of scenario.
“Before she started acting this way, your a
unt was wondering if you still tested your food before eating.”
Test my food? To be sincere, testing my food everyday was very difficult.
The time she gave me those stripes to check if my food was laced with matricide, whoever was poisoning my womb stopped, so after a while, I stopped using them.
“So, I have to continue using the test kit you gave me.”
She nodded.
I turned to Leo and I noticed his face had turned red. He made a fist too. “Someone poisoned my pup?” He finally said something since my Aunt, Freya, and the pack healer walked in.
“Yes, someone poisoned your pup and we are guessing it was the same person who tried to destroy the Luna’s womb. Though, we’re only seventy percent sure that she was poisoned. Whatever was used is just like shadowsting. It is hard to detect. I know you are working hard to find out whoever this person is, but you should work harder. This person can do it again and to be sincere, if that happens, it will be too bad. I can try my best and help the Luna, but there will come a time that I won’t be able to do so.”
Her words scared me. The address she gave me was the same place tons of warriors were sent to find out who the culprit was, but so far, there has been no progress. If I wanted to get out of this, I had to help myself.

“What if we set a trap?” asked and everyone looked at me, anticipating what I wanted to say next. Including, Aunt Freya
“What kind of trap?”
“I hope nobody except we in this room knows about my miscarriage?” I asked and everyone looked at each other.
They looked back at me and nodded.
“I don’t think anybody else apart from us knows,” Janice said and I nodded.
“For now, my miscarriage should be a secret. Tomorrow, I’ll post a picture I took of my baby bump that I took a few days back. Then, I’ll caption the picture with something like ‘expecting. If whoever killed our pup sees that, he or she will get confused and might try to poison me again, but this time around we will be ready to catch.”
Leo frowned.

He did not like this idea of mine. “We are not putting your life in danger,” he said. He sounded like no one could change his mind, but that was what I was about to do. I had to change his mind.
“So, not knowing who has been trying to stop me from getting you a heir is more safe? That person is probably staying in this mansion with us and you expect me to walk freely in this place without fear. I trust everybody in this room. If nobody apart from us does not know about the miscarriage, this will work out.”
After convincing the Alpha for hours, he finally agreed to my plan. So, the search began.
The next day, I set up the bait and started testing every single thing before putting it into my mouth. Days passed, but I got nothing.
“Anything?” Leo asked one evening.
