Chapter 143
KAIDEN STIRLING
All eyes were on me the second I walked into the room. I took five seconds to look around the room and examine what the hell was going on. At the corner closest to where I was standing, Lyra was being held by a guard. Her eyes were wide and hopeful as soon as they landed on me. There was blood at the corner of her mouth and there was a bruise on her cheeks.
Dane was sitting at the council table with a frown on his face. The other council members looked indifferent and Safiya was sitting there with a smirk on her face. On sighting me, her eyes were filled with surprise and then they became guarded. It was like she didn’t want me there.
My eyes went in the direction she had been smirking and I saw the reason she didn’t want me there. Freda.
She was on her knees with her head bowed and her body limp. If it wasn’t for the two guards holding her up, she would be on the floor. I could tell that.
I suddenly knew what this was about. Safiya had brought Freda with the s**id allegations she had made up to me at the hospital… Without even consulting me.
“What is he doing here?” I heard her ask as I started to walk towards Freda..
“Would you look at that; the Alpha finally decided to grace us

with his presence,” one of the Council members said and the other’s chuckled in response. I was glad they found this amusing because that would be the only thing that would amuse them for the next few weeks. I was going to make their f**g lives miserable.
“I asked a question,” Safiya hissed at them, her voice growing angry. “I invited him,” I heard Dane say in a nonchalant voice. So the Council hadn’t invited me?
This was getting even more funny.
The guards who were holding Freda up started to back away from me as I drew closer to them. “Let her go,” I growled at them. So far, I had been able to keep the anger in me at bay. But the moment the guards looked at Safiya for permission to let Freda go, I lost it.
“I said, get the f**k off her!” I yelled and they jerked away, letting go of Freda’s hands. She collapsed to the ground completely and groaned as she landed on the floor. I knelt in front of her and pulled her into my arm, examining her.
“Are you alright?” I asked and she only sobbed. “Kaiden, I’m tired. I’m so tired,” she wept. “Francisco… Francisco,” she whimpered and my rage at Safiya was kindled a new.
She had almost destroyed my daughter’s life and now she was trying to destroy my and Freda’s son?
Hifted her off the ground bridal style and looked in Dane’s direction. He got the message immediately. He stood up from the table and walked towards me. I met him halfway, handing Freda over to him. “Make sure she and Lyra get proper care,” I told him and he gave me a single nod in return.

“Kaiden… Francisco,” she said in a weak voice. Tears were still falling down her face. My heart broke. “I’ll bring him to you, I promise,” I whispered to her and she looked in my eyes. She sobbed as she nodded, and Dane walked towards the door, signaling for Lyra to follow him. She looked at me, as though asking for permission. I nodded and she raised her hands that were tied together to hit the guard beside her in his nose. His nose was definitely broken from how hard that hit was.
Once Dane, Lyra, and Freda were out, I turned towards the council, regarding them as calmly as I could. My father’s friend was not at the table and I could not help but wonder why he was not here. All of these men… I was not sure what Safiya had done to have them under her boots the way she did, but I was definitely not entertaining these corrupt men as part of the Werewolf Council that governed my pack.
“I would like to inform you that you have just interrupted the administration of justice on someone who attacked and attempted to kill our Luna,” the youngest one, Tyler, said, and I ignored him. I was going to address them later. Now, I needed to speak to Safiya.
“You want to tell me why you didn’t tell me about Harper’s condition?” I asked, turning towards her. I was managing to keep my anger at bay, but Kai was failing miserably and it was affecting me. All the color drained from her face and neck; my heart shattered.
It was true… Not that I had doubted the doctor. I just… I couldn’t really accept that she had actually kept something this important about my child away from me.
