Chapter 144
FREDA WHITLOCK
“No…” I whispered. I looked at Safiya. She was staring at me with a smirk on her face. “Where is Francisco?” I asked her, taking deep breaths and trying to calm the chaotic storm in my head and chest. She smiled wide. “Where’s my son?!” I screamed at her and she gestured something to the guard at my right side.
“Luna, I believe that is unnecessary,” one of the Council members said with discomfort. “I believe you need to shut up,” Safiya responded coldly. “You need to work on your manners, Freda. You’re speaking to Luna and implying an accusation against her because of your bastard,” she spat, and I let out a heart–wrenching sob.
“No, Safiya. You wouldn’t actually do anything to him. You wouldn’t hurt him. He’s a child!” I cried. “He didn’t do anything! Why are you this way?!” I cried out.
My screams were echoing through the room and they were causing my head to pound harder. My head spun and even on my knees, I collapsed further to the ground.
I was exhausted and in terrible pain, both physically and emotionally. What on earth had I done to deserve this? What had my son done to deserve this? What had Lyra, of all people, done to deserve the pain she was going through currently?
“You can go on,” Safiya said and I knew she was not referring to

“I believe there will be no need for any of that,” she interrupted. “Of course, there will be, Luna. We have adjusted this situation. to suit you enough. The Alpha is not going to be here; we have done this at your own time, immediately you asked, and we have been harsh to her. We can not break the rules anymore,” the Member said, and I looked up with exhaustion.
Safiyá was fuming but she had no choice but to accept it the way it was. As they were speaking, my senses started to tingle. It was my wolf. She was sensing something. Our mate.
My heart skipped a beat, but as soon as my excitement began, it ended. Kaiden had always taken Safiya’s side. He had been acting and treating me differently recently, but I had always known him to take Safiya’s side. Who was to say that he would not do that now?
Besides he was married to her. He had sided with her in front of the council before. He definitely was going to do it again.
My head dropped in resignation to my fate… My fate alone. I was not going to let anything happen to Lyra or Francisco. though. Even if I needed to die to protect them.
The doors were loudly pushed open and the room went quiet. For a solid ten seconds, nothing was said. I strained my ears and there was not the sound of a single footstep. I tried, but I could not raise my head anymore. My body was too tired and the guards holding my arms up were making it worse. I could feel my shoulders popping out of their sockets because of the

weird position`my whole body was in.
“What is he doing here?” I heard Safiya as just as the footsteps began. Just by how heavy and calculated they were, I knew it was Kaiden. He said nothing. No one spoke until…
“Would you look at that; the Alpha finally decided to grace us with his presence,” one of the Council members said and the others chuckled in response.
Safiya seemed to be infuriated by the fact that her question was ignored. “I asked a question,” she hissed through gritted teeth and someone finally answered, even though I was sure it was not an answer she liked. This person was not looking for her favor like the others.
