Chapter 150
KAIDEN STIRLING
“She made us hurry to the hospital only for us to discover it was a trap. A literal ambush…oh my f**g gosh,” she shook her head. “Safiya is such a dumb b**h and I’m going to feed her my boots when I get my hands on her,” she fumed.
“Freda was locked in a room with Safiya by the time I realized what was going on. Francisco had been with me…” She said, looking towards Francisco who was lying beside Freda.
“They took him from me and knocked me out,” she said and her voice broke. She looked down at her hands and took a slow, deep breath. “I had never been so f**king scared in my life. Freda would hate me if anything happened to him,” she said, wiping her eyes.
I watched her with pity and handed her a paper towel. She wiped her eyes and let out a sigh.
“Next thing I know, I’m in the damn room with the Werewolf council members and they are saying that Freda was charged with trying to harm the Luna or some shit,” she folded the paper towels and set them on her lap. “I will kill Safiya when I get my hands on her.”
I wanted to tell her that she was not really going to have to do that because I would make sure she actually suffered for what she had done by werewolf law. “And then you walked in like a savior,” she said with a smirk and we both burst out laughing.

“Don’t say that,” I shook my head. “It’s so cringe.”

“It’s true though. You saved us. I wonder what would have happened if you had not come,” she said and shuddered. “I came because you reached out to me. My phone died, and I could not hear you through the call,” I said and took a deep breath, wondering if it would be okay to tell her what I was about to do.
Screw it.
“Harper passed out in the car,” I said and her eyes flew to me. I looked down at my hands. “I would have gotten to you both earlier because Dane had called me about a meeting earlier, but I had to get her to the hospital,” I told her and from the corner of my eye, I could see her nodding, telling me without words that it was alright.
“She has a heart condition. A very bad one. I never knew about it,” I said, fighting against myself so that I would not tear up. “Safiya did not tell me about it. Harper had medications, and because she was not taking them, her condition deteriorated to the point where it is now,” I explained, and she could only watch me with sympathetic eyes.
“Oh goddess, I’m so sorry about this,” she said, shaking her head. “Any reason Safiya didn’t tell you?” She asked and I looked at her, shaking my head. “You won’t believe it,” I said, and she smiled a bit. “Try me,” she said with a shrug.
“I had been upset with her at the time she found out. I was not showing her love or some shit. And she did not know when was an appropriate time to tell me,” I said, shaking my head because I was still in disbelief that she had given this shit as her reason.

“What the f**k?” Lyra groaned, burying her face in her hands. “I believe you,” she said, shaking her head. “I’m really sorry about that,” she added. “Is she in surgery or out of surgery?” She asked and I nodded. “She’s out of surgery.”
“Have you gone to see her?” she asked cautiously.
“No.” I looked at her and chuckled. “I’m too scared to see her in that position,” I admitted and her eyes softened. I looked away from her. “I don’t want your pity, Lyra,” I stated.
“Yeah. I’m going to see her. Wanna come with?” She asked and I watched her carefully as she stuffed fried into her mouth and carried a bottle of water with her as she stood up. “I… Yeah,” I said.
She smiled down at me. “Come on,” she said, heading towards the door. She looked in Freda’s direction and hurried towards her. She kissed Francisco’s forehead and stroked Freda’s hair. “I’ll be back soon,” she said tenderly and walked to meet me at the door.
We left and on our way to my daughter’s ward, all I could think about was how much I wanted to be the one stroking Freda’s hair.
