Chapter 151
KAIDEN STIRLING
She smiled down at me. “Come on,” she said, heading towards the door. She looked in Freda’s direction and hurried towards her. She kissed Francisco’s forehead and stroked Freda’s hair. “I’ll be back soon,” she said tenderly and walked to meet me at the door.
We left and most of the way to my daughter’s ward, all I could think about was how much I wanted to be the one stroking Freda’s hair.

I was pi**ed.
The doctors had not let Lyra or me get into Harper’s room. I had not really listened to their explanations of the reason we couldn’t go in, because I had been too angry at the fact that I could not see her. I had wondered if that had anything to do with Safiya, but I knew it couldn’t. She wouldn’t dare that after all she had done.
Dane was hanging around the end of the hallway, waiting for both of us to have a conversation. I could tell he was eager to finish up and go back to his mate. It had been a long day, honestly, and I felt bad for him, but we needed to finish up on everything I had in mind for both of us. I did not care how long that took.

“You go ahead. Get some rest, I need to talk to him.” I told Lyra as w
walked towards Dane. She looked between the two of us and nodded. When we got to where Dane was, he gave her a nod. She smiled. “Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it,” she said and he grinned at her. “Just doing my job,” he said in response and she walked away from us.
“What exactly happened at the meeting today?” I asked, turning towards him. I stuck my hands in my pockets and he mirrored my movement. “To be honest, I am not exactly sure. Gorden was not called, so I am convinced that Luna must have spoken to the people she has a bit of influence over and made them call a meeting without informing you,” he said, and I bit my lip before taking a deep breath.
“So you’re saying they were supposed to preside a case, but even from the beginning, they were showing favoritism towards Safiya?” I asked, trying to confirm what I had already thought of. He nodded and leaned against the wall behind him. “This is how it is…” He said, taking a deep breath.
“They invited me to the meeting because they obviously thought I would be influenced. They know Gorden would not have agreed to arrange the meeting on such short notice, especially if there was no credible proof that Freda attacked Luna. Also, it was very inappropriate that Lyra and Freda came in front of them in the conditions that they were in. They knew this. I have a feeling they had planned it even before Freda and Lyra were taken,” he told me his theories and I realized that they were not far from the truth.
It was almost unbelievable. How were these people presiding over the wolves in my pack? Was there a way to actually prove their credibility for the posts they were holding? I was furious,

appalled, and irritated. I was completely disgusted, I could not believe the shit I was hearing.
If the whole of this had been premeditated, then I could not help but believe that Freda, Cisco, Lyra, and even Freda’s father were in danger.
Goddess…
I ran my fingers through my hair and I could not help fuming. It was too bad that I had not realized how much of a danger Safiya was earlier and I had not thought to take care of it. It was even worse that I didn’t know how much of a stupid bunch of bastards the members of the Werewolf council were.
I was going to have to interrupt my father’s holiday and tell him of this whole saga. I was going to have to interrupt it anyway. They needed to hear of what had happened to Harper. Goddess, the whole of this thing was exhausting And I was struggling to keep up with it.
I did not want to think about how devastated my mother would be. She would definitely end the holiday even if my father didn’t want to, and then she would hurry back to the pack to check up on her.
I knew she would be very disappointed in me, but I was going to have to tell her about all of this. Everything regarding Safiya and all she had done to Freda because of… Me. That made me sad. The majority of everything going on was my fault and it caused me to hate myself more and more every single time.
She had always liked Freda more than Safiya, even before everyone found out that Freda and I were mates. I had been too stupid to listen to her.
