Chapter 70
FREDA WHITLOCK
I pulled the car up in the driveway and climbed right out of the car, slamming my door s**t and heading for Francisco’s seat. Throughout the drive, he had been silent and I did not know how to feel about that. I had been lost in my thoughts but now I am worried. I did not want him thinking about what he had witnessed. It would kill me.
He gave me a small smile as I brought him out of the car. My heart clenched in my chest and I bit my lip, blinking back tears. Goddess…
I hated this. I hated this whole thing so much.
As soon as I shut the door and took off Francisco’s jacket, he grabbed my hand. I looked down at him. He looked sad and panicked, with tears in his eyes. “What’s wrong, baby?” | immediately asked and he motioned for me to kneel down. I immediately did and ran my hand over his head.
“What’s wrong, sweetie?” I asked, looking at his face. Tears filled is eyes and my heart shattered to pieces in my chest. He looked down at the floor and then looked at me. “I didn’t push Harper. I was trying to help her. Please believe me,” he said in a teary voice and my heart broke.
“Of course baby I do.” I said as tears filled my own eyes. Oh goddess, why was this happening to my sweet, innocent boy?

I pulled him into a tight hug and his little s**bs crushed my already shattered heart. “I believe you, sweetie,” I said, pulling back to wipe the tears off his gorgeous face.
“Then why did you kneel and apologize?” He asked. I smiled a small smile as pain tore through my chest. He was so pure. So so pure. Too pure for this d** world.
“I did it because I had to.” I explained. His head c**d to the side and I could almost hear his next question before he asked it. “Why did you have to?” He asked and I smiled, glad that his attention was off the sadness he had been feeling.
“The Alpha asked me to. I had to do it.” I answered.
“Alpha?” He asked and I took his hand, rising to my feet and
taking him towards the living room. Once we were both comfortably seated on one of the couches and he was looking at me, I started to explain.
“Remember the story I told you about the wolves?” I asked and he thought before he nodded vigorously. “The wolves are just like us. We are just like the wolves. The Alpha is the leader. The beta is the Alpha’s assistant. We also have the Delta. He directs the warriors,” I said and he absorbed the information I was giving him.
“Can I be a Delta?” He asked and smiled before nodding. “You can be anything, baby,” I said even though the number of times parents and movie characters had used that line made me cringe really hard.
“I’ll use all the guns and armor,” he said with an excited look in his eyes and I laughed before shaking my head. “No talking about guns, sweetie.”

immediately turned in the direction of the door and I found Lyra standing there furiously.
She took off her jacket and hung it up before locking the door and then taking her shoes off.
“Go to your room, Baby. You can take the iPad,” I said to Francisco absentmindedly and he grinned at me as he took the iPad and headed towards the rooms. “Hey, Aunt Lyra,” he said in Lyra’s direction and she responded to him kindly despite the fury that seemed to consume her
“Hi baby.” She said, glancing in his direction before looking at
me.
“Tell me if isn’t true,” she said, pulling her hair up in a ponytail. “What?” I asked, walking towards the kitchen to fetch her a glass of water.
“The d** rumors… About you apologizing to f**g Safiya,” she fumed, crossing her hands and glaring at me from across the counter.
I handed her the glass and she took the water down in two gulps. Okay… She was really mad. Probably even more mad about the whole thing than I was. I sighed regretfully because I was about to add to her fury by confirming it.
“I did. I had to,” I said.
“F**k!” She exploded and I was surprised the glass did not shatter in her grip. “Language, Lyra.” I said in a low voice.

“Why the **k did you do it?” She asked and I shook my head. “I did not have much of a choice, Lyra. The Alpha asked me to. If I had refused, it would have put Francisco and I in danger,” I told her with a shake of my head, walking round the counter towards her.
“What?” She fumed, looking like she would breathe fire any
second. Her wolf was mad as hell and it showed in her eyes. My guess was that she had not heard that it was Kaiden that asked
me to.
D**n it, I was digging the hole for both of us.
“Why the hell did he ask you to do that??” She questioned and I shook my head. “Lyra, you seem to forget that I am nothing to him. I mean nothing, and if not for Francisco, he would not even be trying to talk to me. He is the alpha. That and his marriage to my sister are far more important to him,” I told her she shook her head.
She placed the glass on the counter angrily and headed for the. door. “I’m going to speak some sense into his dumb, empty head,” she said through gritted teeth and I was immediately filled with panic.
“Lyra,” I called. I ran after her and grabbed her from behind, wrapping my hands around her. “No. You’re not doing that!” F held her tight. “Let me go!” She yelled and I feared that Francisco would come out and see us like this.
“Stop this, g**n it!” I yelled at her. “Going to talk to him will get you in trouble. Safiya is willing to ruin anything that so much as breathes the same air as Kaiden. I will not let that happen to you,” I told her as tears filled my eyes. She turned around and looked at me.

The fire in her eyes had calmed but it was still burning. “Please. don’t go,” I pleaded and she hesitated before she nodded.
“Okay,” she whispered and pulled me into a hug. “I’m sorry for being a b**h.” She said. I smiled against her shoulder and nodded. “I understand. You were mad.”
“I’m still mad that you had to go through that. I’m sorry about it too,” she whispered and I smiled.
Goddess knew I loved this woman. So much.
