“I was just asking” I said holding my hands up in my own defense, my hand going to the door handle. 

“Well don’t.” he said hardly, I could see him struggling to hold his composure and I laughed. He grabbed my arm pulling me back. 

“Did I say you could get out?” he asked me, I grinned at him. I didn’t know what was up with him tonight but him getting all authoritive and giving me attitude was cute. 

“You’re so cute” I told him, I could see the hard façade he tried to put on break and he grinned at me pulling me into a soft kiss. 

“Not as cute as you” he responded giving me another kiss. 

“I have something for you” he told me his face getting serious. 

“So there is an occasion” I prompted, he rolled his eyes. 

“The occasion is that I love you, and I’ve always promised you that I would never treat you the way he did.” He told me, I nodded not following, he reached into his jacket and pulled out a small red box, I bit down on my lip. He held it out for me to take. I stared at him judging him. 

“What is this?” I asked him. 

“Open it and find out” he responded. 

“Jay” I said warningly taking it, I took in a deep breath and opened the box. It was a ring like I had expected. Not a large wedding ring with a giant rock. Just a small simple ring, with a braided band full of tiny diamonds and a small diamond in the middle. It was small and simple and so beautiful, I looked up 

at him. 

“What is this?” I repeated not able to get my voice above a whisper because of the knot that had formed in 

my throat for the want to cry. 

“It’s a promise ring. It’s my promise to you that I will always appreciate you, and love you, and spoil you and treat you like a queen because that’s what you deserve because you’re so beautiful and amazing. And I can’t believe that I have something like you in my life to cherish.” He said, clearing his throat I could hear it getting thick with emotion, I was crying, I nodded and he wiped my tears away and then took the box, he took the ring out and slid it on my finger. It was beautiful, it was so beautiful. What did I ever do to deserve him? 

“Thank you” I said quietly after I finally controlled my tears, we were about to go out, I didn’t need red puffy eyes to match my cute dress. He got out and came around and took me out of the truck, I pulled
